MP3 conversion

Good day fellow MPC users....I have a serious dilemma and I need an accurate answer....here are my questions:

1)How do you convert protools files to mp3 files using I-tunes?
2)What exactly is the process....??

Now im using protools tdm and I dont have toast...

The most I know is that you have to save files as data files and convert them as MP3 files to send ..this has to be done by today.....period..point blank...if there is anyone out their that can help please holla at your boy.....Desperation has sunk in....

i dont really mess with protools but on cubase you have a choice on what format you want ur files to be exported wether mp3, wav, wma, etc. are you trying to export a whole recording or individual tracks from the recording??

That shouldn't be too much trouble. More info might be needed but here goes....Off top I'm assuming you want to bounce files to disk from Protools and then convert them to MP3's. Basically, (I use Itunes for MP3 conversion too) just bounce your mix down to .AIFF format (if it's MAC), or .WAV(if its PC). Make sure it goes to a folder Itunes will recognize. Anyway, after you put the .AIFF or .WAV file in Itunes, go EDIT, then PREFERENCES and select the IMPORTING tab. On the IMPORTING page you will see you can change formats from AAC, MP3, etc(pick MP3 encoder). You can also select the kps quality of the MP3 file. When you are done selecting MP3 encoder, you can then select the file in Itunes go to the ADVANCED menu and you should see 'convert to MP3' as an available option. There are some variables to this equation based on your use of Protools, but this should do it.....More info would help though I don't know what kind of source files you are working with or trying to convert....

I never messed with Protools. What format does Protools save it's programs as? (ie... .snd, .rex, .aiff)

my source file is going to be aiff files from protools....I have to recreate a track tonight then track into protools and then send it to LA....sample rate is 44.1khz and the bit rate is 24bit...the vocals are out there already but now i have to redo the track because the two track was distorted....Im not going to send them a two track anymore...i want to send them the whole tracked out music session...feel me....all this has got to happen tonight...and i believe i have to go to kinkos to make that all happen...how does that sound...

how do i save the session file...or do I save...i need to put it on disc somehow....because the studio im using to do the music over again does not have the internet....is that what i need to send these files........

Do what I said in the other post above...I don't know about the sample rate though..may have to be 44.1k 16-bit for MP3 I ain't a hardcore computer cat....but if it's .AIFF format you should have no problem converting them to MP3's...f**k Kinko's main you got erything you need at the crib just use some brain power and put the pieces together...No need for a session file, if you bounce the files down at a preset volume, when they are re-imported the mix will be intact. I could break it down more, but no need to panic you can do this.....Need more info???

Do you not have a CD Burner?

I think all you need to do is save your protools file/folder on a data disc and take it to the studio. Save it on CD or Zip and make a back up.

Here's what you do, 2 options:

1) is, go to the digidesign website and buy the upgrade to
PT that lets you F w/ MP3s directly. I think it's $30.
As far as I know there is no 'free' version of this steeze,
and yeah, it's a rippoff, but very convenient.

2) is in iTunes, go to Preferences, Advanced, importing.
Change the encoder to MP3s, if you wanna change something TO
that, and of course if you wanna change it FROM mp3 to aiff or wav, change to the aiff or wav encoder. Now, when something is in iTUnes
already, or you have just dragged it in, highlight the track in the list.
Then, go to and choose 'convert to (whatever you set it to)'. It'll do it's
thing. Then, when in ProTools, you will select the location to pull converted file from. Unless you changed iTunes destination, it'll wind up in your user library on the main drive, in a folder for iTunes. Note that you can't just drag a file from an iTunes list that wasn't MP3 in the list. For example, if you start with an SDII in that list, and convert, it won't turn the listed one
to your preference. It will make a copy in the iTunes Library though. If it's
LISTED in a Playlist as the filetype you wanted already, then yes, you can drag it to the desktop for easy (hopefully temporary) locating.

Sooo....Just bounce the joint from PT as aiff or whatever, quit, choose a conversion method in iTunes, do it, then copy the file from iTunes folder to the desktop for emailing.

Hope that's what you need...

Actually I'm out here in the 'burbs, but I used to live in Frisco, got a lots of peeps up there so it's like the local homebase for me....So yo, you figure that MP3 sh** out or what?? It ain't that hard....and f*** the Digidesign $30 upgrade, the conversion time on Protools takes a long time compared to Itunes and the quality ain't no better. My boy Infa got a HD system and said he was pissed off about the MP3 converter in Protools considering Itunes is free and does the same thing just as good.......

Serious dilemma?

Bounce the PT file to stereo, drop it into itunes, hit 'convert selection to MP3'. Done.

cant bounce it too stereo....i have too send the whole tracked out music to cali....so they can mix the WHOLE song....not a two track.....all the music...the kick, the bass, the hihats, the snare, the keyz...etc, etc....feel me.....

I'm not understanding why you need an MP3 then. Just save the protools file onto a disc and take it to the studio.

the studio is in California homeboy...cnat do that........
