question about ZIPs and MPC3000s

hi folks,

let me introduce myself, this is Mandino from Italy, I'm new here and I'd like to first say hello everybody.

I got a technical question about ZIP installation on a MPC3000.
I know it's possible to use an external drive through the SCSI port; I also know there is a way to mount an internal drive and plug it into the SCSI port, as shown on www.mpc3000.com;

finally, I also noticed there is people on Ebay selling MPC3000s with a built-in zip drive that does not use the external SCSI, allowing this way the use of an external SCSI hard disk or CD.

anybody knows how is that possible? is it connecting to the floppy port or something, given that the 3000 has got no IDE ports? any help or suggestion would be truly appreciated, as I'm willing to get a zip drive asap.

There is only one SCSI connector on the MPC3000. At mpc3000.com the SCSI is used and extended to the external port to allow for both internal and external devices. I know, that is my MPC, but the page may not be updated with that info.

Eventually I discovered this ZIP mod I was talking about is made by the guys at www.forat.com, but couldn't find any further info on how to do it myself.

Could you please post your tweaking procedure here in this forum? or if you did already, can you address me to the page? I think that could be of great interest to others as well, but If you prefer I can drop you an email instead.

I was just looking at your site and seriously thinking about modding my MPC3000. I am sick of the noise of my 1GB external hard drive. I hardly use it these days. Just for back ups. I try to turn it on. Get my sounds and get otta there.

A laptop internal drive would be a great solution. The only thing that worries me is the heat. The MPC is a hot body already. With an internal hard drive and an external zip, it could roast.

How has yours held up?

Mine does not run very hot. It's a little warm, but that's it.

Laptop drives do not generate any heat. Thy spin slow (44k) compared to other drives.

Thanks. I'm waiting on a check, but when I get it and the coast is clear as far as my wife is concerned, I'll do the upgrade. It will change my whole operation.

I know this has been asked but I'm not clear on the answer. If I install an internal zip according to the mpc3000.com page, it says you had covered the external scsi connector. Is this correct or will I still be able to use the external with the internal drive installed? Will any internal scsi zip work?Thanks.
