them fast hi-hats

Hi,
i just got my mpc2000xl studio plus and i would like to put fast hi-hats on a beat. At 99bpm, its impossible to tap the pads fast enough. I tried to put echo or something but it didnt do what i wanted. Any pointers? thanx!

try using the note tap button or whatever its called.... when you record hold it down while holding down wichever pad you made the hat.... or go into step edit

Note repeat at varying resolutions (1/16, 1/32, triplets...) should do the trick. Just change the quantize setting to change the repeat rate as well.

i would no what to do without the tap function on the mpc. gives me the feel i'm looking for with the hi hats.

Or, you can jog to the part of the beat where you want the hats, set your timing to however fast you want it (1/16, 1/32, etc....) and hold down overdub (not overdub + play, JUST overdub) and manually tap in the notes where needed. (as you tap the hi-hat, you'll notice your Bar/Beat/Tick advancing by the increment you set, i.e. 1/16....)

The note repeat button is way faster, but this is a good trick to know anyway........ it's especially helpful for programming snare rolls, hat rolls etc..... especially if you incorporate this technique with 16 levels (velocioty) to get the sound to fade in.......

It sounds like you're talking about hi hat rolls like they have in Dirty south beats. The overdub works but if you want fast rolls it can be hard to place it exactly where you want. I think the easiest way to get it right the first time is to lower the tempo to the point where you can hit the pads fast enough. Just bring it down to like 60 bpm, play what you want at the slow tempo, then bring the tempo back to 99. Easy.

oh yeah and don't forget to set the quantize to 1/16 or 1/32

yowie mane, you beat me to it....I was also gonna add that you can try laying some stuff down in the step edit scriddeen too if you wanna get it exact.......

yeah but if quantize is set right you don't need step edit. step edit is cool for moving your shizz back or forward a little bit...but not as cool as moving the start point of the sample back or forth .000001 to get the timing exact.
