tempo problem

whats up yall i just got a mpc2000xl and i am having a llittle problem with the tempo. i searched the forum and couldnt find anything. ok when i hit the pads to make my own lil rythym and record it. then i press play and the tempo is really fast. i read the manual and found out how to slow it down. but my question is how can i make the rythym sound the same as when i hit the pads. like realtime play.

timing - 1/16 and go from there. experiment with differrent
timing to see/hear what you like.
