records to stay away from (or be cautious of..)

Sampling to me is about grabbing sounds. Genre has nothing to do with it.

Shook Ones Pt. II is a banjo. Although in the rap song it's softened and sounds like electric piano. That Thackery joint is dope. It could've been flipped so many different ways with all the sounds they got on there.

You can use all kinds of things to sample even dripping water. By the way, there's a famous drum breat on a Kenny Rodger's album. You just have to play it at 45 rpm.

you cats need to play drop the needle. Grab any record and where the needle lands you sample. Chop, transpose, filter whatever the **** you do with your samples. Do this for a night or two. Make the most of it. I do this all the time. I dont care what it is I will make it Bang. Do this for a while and soon artist wont matter.

Ive been chopping shit for close to 15 years. Try it

i sample WHAT EVER, i dont care if anyone else has used it, i will use it a totaly diffrent way, when i find a ill smaplei use it, not throw it away just cuz the heatmakers have done it, or pete rock, what evers ill

records i dont mess with are like the 40 to 50s swing/bigband/singer joints. Real popular records, like the top 40 shit throughout the years, country, and others. I have a distinct taste in records so i kind of know what i would like or dislike. I mainly buy records though as a collector, not to just look for samples. I have to like the music to sample it, so i go with my tastes.

As far as stay away from... Do not sample or remake a hip hop record if you are making a hip hop record. Pretty much everything else is a go, nothing else is off limits. I try to stay away from billboard top 40 from 80's and up...
