mpc1000 pgm's will not load on the 2000xl. although the sounds/seqs(midi) will. so you have to manually recreate the pgm or use mpc editor.

If you look at the bottom of the page that I posted the link to you will see the compatibility chart between mpc1k and all the other mpc models.
