PANNING WITH THE MPC 2000XL

I TRY TO PAN WITH MY MPC BUT THE SOUND STAYS IN THE MIDDLE. LET'S SAY I PAN MY HI-HAT TO THE RIGHT, THE SOUND COME OUT OF BOTH MONITORS LOUD AND CLEAR, AM I PANNING CORRECTLY??

Are your monitors set to Mono?

Try to unplug a right or left cable..

Can you be more specific? Where are you panning the sound within the MPC? I would assume 'mixer mode'?

I think u gotta go into the mixer options on the MPC and set it to "record mixer changes"

If it was a stereo-sampled sound, the pan is actually a balance adjust, which means you're turning down the opposite side when you "pan" the sample. (like on a car stereo) Therefor, if a snare was panned left in the original mix and sampled stereo, when you "pan" right the sound will simply muffle on the left and come out no louder on the right.

I don't know that this is your problem, but it's an idea. You don't need to set the record mixer changes option, in fact I recommend not doing it on your first pan, but whatever works for you.

I MIGHT JUST BE A DUMMY BUT I'M STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
IF I PAN A SNARE TO THE RIGHT IN THE MPC MIXER SCREEN, THE SNARE SHOULD BE ON THE RIGHT, CORRECT?? WELL FOR SOME REASON MY SNARE STAYS IN THE CENTER. I HAVE A EXTERNAL MACKIE MIXER THAT MY MONITORS AND MPC ARE CONNECTED TO. COULD IT BE SOMETHING WITH THE MIXER? I'M JUST GUESSING NOW, PLEASE HELP! THANKS.

try to remove the mixer en direct input your monitors in your mpc. So you can check if the problem is in your mixer.
If not try with headphone or other speakers..

JAVA, I DID WHAT YOU SAID AND THE PROBLEM IS IN THE MIXER BECAUSE IT PANS JUST FINE WHEN I PLUG MY MONITORS DIRECTLY IN THE MPC, WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE MIXER??

I'm thinking the channel you have the mpc plugged into is mono, try plugging the left and right out of the mpc so each output will have its own fader on the mixer. Just pan one channel left and the other one right on the mackie. If you want just post what exact model mixer you have because it might have some stereo channel strips.
