question about installing os 3.11 into my 3k.. problems help

ok look i have os 3.03 installed on my mpc3k, i just downloaded os 3.11 and unzipped and saved it to a floppy formatted on the mpc3k..
i insert the floppy into the mpc and try to load it up and it wont work..
what am i doing wrong??

one more question..
how do i check the memory on my 3k???

i also hear about os 3.14 but i cant find it.. any help?

"It won't work" ... very descriptive

Any particular kind of "It won't work"

Error messages of any sort

3.03 is OLD and known to have problems with booting some newer OS's from a floppy disk.

ok look basically my question is how do i install 3.11 on my mpc.. i inserted a mpc3k formatted floppy into my computer, transferred the file over to the disk and popped it into my 3k, i then proceeded to turn the machine on and from what i was told the os would automatically load..
what am i doing wrong??

p.s. thx for the link to 3.14 but i need to get 3.11 installed properly first..

i looked around and researched and found out that since my o.s. is 3.03 my rom is 3.03 also..
due to that fact i cant upgrade my os the normal way with a floppy loaded with 3.11
it gives me this message

you can buy a 3.11 rom from some akai service centers or from akai themselves, or you can get 3.14 rom from Rohan.

how much does the 3.11 rom cost?

You can't use the floppy to update your OS, it is too old. You have to buy new 3.11 chips.

yeah i'm gonna order the 3.11 chips because i am going through alot of problems with this o.s.
aside from the above mentioned i am having these problems..

1.whenever i attach my zip drive or multidisk drive to the mpc it works fine,
but when i hook up my cdrom drive the mpc wont recognize it..
even when i put in a cd full of .snd files the mpc still wont recognize it..

so since i cant load .snd files in that way what i did was

2. use mpc editor (on my laptop w/ windows xp) to convert my .wav files to .snd , and burned them onto cdr.
then i proceeded to load up the cdr onto my wifes old ass computer which is running (windoze 98se)
since i dont have a floppy drive on my laptop.
i then took my mpc formatted floppies and loaded them up into her computer which already had the cdr with the .snd samples and .pgm's on it
i pretty much just dragged and dropped from cdr to floppy which is the logical way..
then i loaded up the floppies into my mpc3k and it proceeded to give me a message saying, this disk is bad, not formatted correctly or formatted by a different device
aaarrgghhh!!!!!!!!

so i said to myself ok now well maybe the mpc doesnt recognize the pgm's and .snd's because when i moved them to the floppies i just moved the folder with the files inside, for example: if the pgm was named "icon" it was inside a folder named "icon" and i just moved that folder into the floppy

ok so what i did was OPEN EACH FOLDER UP AND MOVE EACH PGM AND ITS .SND'S INTO THE FLOPPY,
made sure the files were on the floppy and loaded them up into my mpc

GUESS WHAT?

i dont know what else to do , have searched and looked everywhere for answers but to no avail..
someone please help me b4 i lose the rest of my hair

could my problem be that since i burned the cdrs with the .pgm files on a windows xp system,
i cant copy them to a floppy on a win98 system???
i have never heard of that b4
but at this point i am ready to believe anything, even that the easter bunny is behind this...

help would be greatly appreciated, i apologize for the long post but i wanted to make sure you guys understood exaclty what i was going thru..

might be the disks you are using, might be your disk drive, get a cleaning disk and see if that works.

You should get a zip drive for your computer and transfer from XP to the MP on it's own transfer disk, works everytime for me.

i'm actually on ebay right now looking for one

3.08 is the earliest version that is anything near 100% reliable.
Anything from the 3.00 to 3.03 era is very rough around the edges.

3.11 is the lowest version you should have installed in an MPC3000.

3.14 contains bug fixes for stuff left in a rough state since version 3.00.

3.14 adds a couple of new features too.

An ISO formatted CD-ROM can not be read by MPC3000 machines.

The CD-ROM would instead have to be a sector image duplicate of an MPC3000 hard disk.

If your MPC3000 gave you the error about the disk being bad before even selecting a PGM/SND combo to load then it would suggest:

The "boot sector" or "FAT" of the floppy disks has been damaged by WIN98/WINXP sticking turds in the OEM-ID ... Or a virus writing other junk into the boot sector and damaging the FAT.

If your MPC3000 accepted the floppy disk without problems and displayed errors when loading the files then that could indicate file corruption on the floppy.

MPC60 and MPC3000 machines don't support folders on disks.

Onward.

First, if you haven't done this already:

Next. Format the floppy disks on your MPC3000.

If using the MPC-EDITOR it's often best to export directly to the disk you intend using with your MPC.

With your situation in mind this would mean doing the PGM/SND creation and export routine directly onto the MPC3000 formatted floppy disk.

IE: Perform the process with your 98 machine.

In addition to all of this. Maybe run up a decent ANTIVIRUS shield on both of your computers and make certain that your system is clean.

Maybe also consider getting hold of a floppy disk cleaner kit and giving your MPC floppy drive a good clean out. Consider doing this on your 98 machine too.

Do this only with floppies, I don't trust bill gates with my zip disks and use a transfer zip.
