Keepin' Yourself Different.

As sampling producers it's pretty easy for us to make similar music using similar sample flippin' techniques.
What do you do to make your music different? Like, lets say you and another producer had a beat battle using the exact same sampe. What would make people vote for yours?

I'd chop the sample and sort of turn the sample into a synth patch... For instance, If there's a hot guitar riff in this "beat battle"... I might chop one or two notes out of the sample and tune them to make a new guitar line... Making the sample my own... Also, I use my JV-30 (which I created my own sounds on) so that helps add some variation to my tracks... Plus I got a few other signature tricks up my sleeve...

That first trick is hot because cats swear I'm usin loops sometimes, but honestly what I do most of the time is create my own loop out of one or two notes from another loop...

Other cats do this, but I definitely have my own style to it...

Mainly just do like the title of you post.Keep yourself diffenet.Get outside the box,take a good look in and then go to work.Definitely gotta start with a strong foundation and ten go from there.Use your ears and your heart.

Layering is good. Using three or four instruments to make it sound like one. Cats will never be able to steal your exact formula. Also, with drums using non-standard percussion instruments for extra flavor pulls away from the pack. I think really the most important aspect of keeping your music different is not getting into the rut of copying a popular producer's style. I know cats that have lost years of growth on their own sh** just so they could bite Primo, oops I mean Dre, oops I mean Timbaland, oops I mean Neptunes, oops I mean Just Blaze, etc....you get the picture...Just do you, let the comedians worry about who they sound like or as good as.

True words... I will never rush a track if it doesn't feel complete...

evryone has different taste, different wayys of hearing so when i tune something or sample something it may sound different to everyone who hears it. diffrent techniques dont care what you say it 's different .
