sp12 question not answered in other threads on similar topic

I have found a sp12 for a reasonable price in a local store. But... it does not have the disks to boot from. I have searched for a bootable disk image, but so far have not come up with anything. Does anyone here know whether it is possible to get a disk image/disk? I wanna know this/check it out - if I can find it the shop will let me do a run through of the machine to check it all works OK berfore I start parting with cash...

best option is to get someone to mail you a copy made on a 12. See if you can find a local sp 12 user and see if he'll do it for free or cheap.

Andreas has an SP12, Im sure hed give you a copy of the OS.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna have a look more on the web, and I've learnt of a few other machines for sale around my area, so hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult to find one...

I've never played with one of these machines before, but I'm real curious about it, and the price seems quite reasonable; about 275 quid. (Is that good?). Also, whats your thoughts on pairing this with my 60? Is it a good option, or would I ultimately be throwing cash away. (barring the fact that I'd love to get to know the sp12...)

after reading a bit more about this (I found the manual - thanks again ampea), I can't really see any mention of a boot up disk anywhere. Does it actually need one, or is the shop just playing games? Apparently the battery can run out, meaning that it wouldn't work, but that's all I can find re. not starting up properly.

the battery in is only for flsh rom purposes only like on the ASR10 a friend on mine had the sp12 and gave it away and now its in the pawn shop when he used it I don't recall him ever using a boot disk will ask and get back to you.

The SP-12 doesn't a boot disk it boots from ROM.
The SP-1200 uses a boot disk since he ROM was changed to RAM to increase sample time.
The SP-12 retains memory when switched off. Any samples you do will be there when you turn it on unless you erase them.

If you have a SP-12 that doesn't boot then it sounds like you have a bad battery that needs to be replaced and the unit reset.

yeah, thats what I was beginning to think. Thanks guys. I need to get down to the shop, tell them tey are talking **** and that the unit is bust, grab it for lesss cash than a five dollar shake, and run.

yeah an, that no boot disk thing might get it to your for real cheap!!

On a similar note (thread hijack!). I heard an SP12 the other day, and some of those internal sounds are real tasty! Is there any way I can get those sounds on floppies for my SP1200? Without paying someone on eBay mad loot for copies of sounds he doesn't even own the copyrights to?
