Fukking brilliant! I've been waiting for a doc like this. It looks well done too. Excellent cast of characters...a wide range of artists. From Pete Rock to Negativland.

Best quote EVER:
"Sampling is like the color red. It's like saying 'is the color red creative?'
Well, it is when you use it creatively."
-Harry Allen

What's the projected release date on this? Can't wait.

I like the part that once the artist recieves the $14 for the CD, he has been compensate in the only way he expected to.

Maybe they did that on purpose. Kinda like they're "sampling" the Target logo.

Excellent cast of characters, excellent subject.

I can't wait for the full length doc to come out. This trailer is just one-liners edited together, I'm hoping for something a little deeper; they got so many great artists and experts in front of the camera, I'd really like to hear what those guys have to say.

Also, in the trailer I'm only hearing one side of the story (my side); sampling (when done creatively) is good, lawyers are bad. I'd also like to hear what the other side has to say. I don't think it'll be much, other than "we want whatever money we can get", but I'd still like to hear it.

And I think when talking about this subject you should always make the distinction between sampling whole bars and using phrases as they are, or sampling hits and using chopped up/manipulated sounds. Simply put: are you sampling phrases or timbres?
