I have the 6176, wich includes the 620, and the 1176 compresso.... I couldnt imagine using the pre amp with out the compressor, it just sounds so loose with fast vocals (rap). With the compresso engaged, this thing rocks, trully a nice warnm sound all its own. I acually prefer it over the avalon737, especially when using it as a pre for the mpc, for things like snares and kicks it rocks.

glad you said that; no once will admit it about the SP737. Of course, I wouldn't mid if someone gave me an Avalon, but I don't like machines that are that clean and Sybilant. Like, the akg 414 is great, but I just don't like to spit through it. I like the Ava pre, pretty nice, but I think I'ma just get the LA-610. I used the one you have on some R&B vox, with fantastic results, and of course I love the LA-2A, so I think I'm sold.
Good to know it's nice on mono drum sounds, thanks...

I dont own the all in one pre and compressor...

I own the 2-610 preamp Ua going trough a La2a...
And can I say never have I gotten a sweeter sound and such a moldable sound...

U can compress or just let it pass through or sqaush or do a little limiting, But all limiting I leave for the 1176ln Cause u cant beat FETs baby...

If U have had the experince of running a live drum kits ambient mike standing 6 ft away from the kit,,, And you put the mix through the 1176 in ALL mode you will hear a thunk from the kick and snare like none before..
Now add that to the main mix and damm..

Aaaaight. That's what the
f%#$ I'm talking about.
Thank you all for basically comparing those three models.
I ain't ask it, but the question on everyone's
mind is: does this thing come anywhere
near a UA vintage channel hitting an LA-2A.
And from above yall seem to say:
"sounds good".

Hawaii. I must visit. Soon. I'm going
postal in NYC.
