Which comes first, MPC 1k or Ensoniq asr-10

been looking around and ive sort of decided on buying the MPC 1000 and an asr-10, for melodies and what-not. I have to save and can buy one, then save for a few months and buy the other one.

Which one should I buy first and start practicing on, and if anyone has any other ideas for starter equipment feel free to toss up idea.

Setup ideas:
Asr-10
MPC 1000
M-audio audiophile 192 sound card(pc)
cubase.

if u wanna start tracking ur beats as soonm as u make them then u will need cubase ( or other software) with the sound card.

but for the beat making itself it really depends on the person. if u are gonna be purely sampling to make ur beats the mpc and the asr are both good even though the asr had better filters and effects for the sample.
but if ur gonna wanna sequence some module or w\e ur better off with he sequencer of the mpc than the asr's sequencer. or u might just compose ur beats from scratch so u might even wanna get a workstation ( motif, triton, etc..)if u wanna step up with ur budget, and most worktations have really good samplers 2.

I would get the MPC 1st. Learn that inside out, then I would look for a way to record. To keep it cheap before you start going to CPU route look into a old hardisk recorder. Then get a sound moudle and a midi keyboard. Learn that. Then finally get the ASR10. I have one but I only use it as a soundmodule. I hate chopping on it. I just use it for loops

Not true, there is SO MUCH functionality in the ASR10 that the 2kxl can't touch. Not bashing the 2kxl cause I loves mine AND I love my ASR10 but it's the truth. They are a deadly combination.

Ive been trying to decide between used 2000xl and new 1000, is it worth it to go ahead and buy used 2kxl? They can do everything the 1k can do correct, besides the flash card? I pretty much have it set now that I am going to buy the mpc, software, and sound card first off, then go from there.

This will be my first beat makinmg experience aside from screwing around on fruity loops so I have plenty to learn so I think the mpc will keep me occupied while I learn the ins and outs of sampling and basic beatmaking.

I like the 1k over the 2kxl. I like the speed, I don't need the zoning for now, but its coming along with time stretch. I like the speed and I like the 128 mb of memory. I also like that it comes already with 6 outs, you don't have to search for upgrades, and CF's are much more reliable than zips.

So I've been reading up on ASR10's for a few weeks now, and checking them out on the bay...theyre pretty affordable... but i like sequencing on my mpc2kxl, so besides the effects, could you give me some examples of why i would want to pick one of these up before other items? i mean i could cop an eb16 for cheaper than an ASR obviously, and wouldnt have to switch samples back and forth between machines when adding the effects. I already have a MIDI keyboard, and i use the autochromatic assigning religiously.

Lamp, sounds like you use the two congruently on a regular basis, do you only have a MIDI connection between them, or do you have some sort of SCSI connection? Is it cumbersome to work back and forth between each machine?

I'm going to be ordering the RAM upgrade for my mpc this week (just bought a car so I've been slacking) So would sampling into my MPC from an ASR10 even be efficient with only 16 or 32MB added onto the built in RAM?
