new owner of mpc4000 (need mac g4 help)

Hi,
Sorry dudes to post this here. I like the vibe of this forum and hope people can help.
I am going to be an owner of an MPC4000 tomorrow (hooray!!- taken a year of thinking!)) and I just wanna sort out my mac (G4 933 quicksilver) for ak.sys and a little processing.
My problem is the fan noise (mainly the power supply one). My studio is v.small and I cannot stand the noise from it anymore. v.v.v noisey.
Ive contacted apple (who didnt help at all) and was wondering if any of you dudes have gone about replacing it. Im obviously happy to put in a 'PC' power supply/fan as long as its quiet and adequately cools my machine if one exists.
Has anybody done this ? (Id be happy to replace all the fans in my mac if there quieter).
And would you be so kind to be specific.. make, model, type, serial numbers? ,so i can sort this out and listen to my beats, not a jet-airplane.

You think that the g4 fan is noisy???? wait till you get the mpc... I don't mean to scare you but the mpc is a little noisy too. you can put the g4 in a special gig rack and line it with insulation but the fan is there for a reason... it cools down the g4 to avoid problems so don't go completely blocking off the fan or you'll run into problems. Unless you are monitoring with one inch speakers, the fan noise shouldn't be that much of a big deal. sure if you are recording vocals in the same room with a real sensitive mic, you'll hear it but I wouldn't worry too much about the fan noise...

cheers for the reply deaf-mute, but yo, I have an MPC now and the fan noise is Ok compared to my mac. My G4 is terrible.
I always mix very quietly, as Ive been lucky enough to of been mentored by a pro, and if you can make your mixes sound excellent when there played quiet, they sound incredible when played loud/blasted ot (just the way I do my thing). Things always sound better when hoofed out of a system/rig and ,(loud is always more imprerssive)- hence the backwards logic when mixing.

I totally agree with you and glad that that is your way working as it's not only good for your mixes, but also very good for your ears... still with a reasonable amount of volume, this should not be too much of a problem. As I said earlier you can cop some cabinets that isolate the sound of the
computer. they are lined with isolation foam but are quite expensive for what they are... you can always build a small cabinet with some wood and line it with some regular foam from a diy store and it can do the trick. but do remember not to block the fan as your computer will overheat if you are not careful.

I bought firewire, and usb repeaters, and long vga cables. I moved my quicsilver into another room.

all the cables cos about 80 dollars.


the fan makes too much noise, not to mention the 10,000 rpm drives I have installed in it.

Top, Can you help me a little regarding the 'usb'repeaters. I actually moved my G4 to another room a while back, (long-usb cable, VGA cable + i have a long firewire cable for my Motu 828), but the usb was delayed by an unworkable nastly amount (about 0.5 secs from pressing a key on my keyboard to the computer), so I gave up and put up with my airplane engine at my feet.
So... Usb repeaters (When advised by a music shop 'nonce', they never mentioned this). Presumably the 'usb' repeater strenthens the signal over longer periods? What Kind do you have... make and model etc.. please.. Im gonna buy one the minute i get your mail.

and... 'Yo!', thankyou for your response. This seems like a far more cost effective way to sort things out without messing with my absolutely rock solid (but damn noisey) G4.
