I own all , the nas albums but, streets disciple. I bought them last year, I just have not listened to them.

Nas is so dope. He's one of the best. He talks a lot about the streets and dealing drugs and guns and sh*t like that. But he is very educated. And even if you know nothing about that so called "thug-life" or "street life", you can definitely relate to what he's saying as far as just growing up and the experiences you've been through in life. That's what determines whether music is good or not, according to me.

I also recommend that you pick up "The Lost Tapes". Very good.

Back to the original topic of the thread:

Both the De La & Nas tracks sound much alike but I highly doubt they are same samples.

(I actually ran across the record Dilla sampled that from a few weeks ago in my stash...I flipped something quick from the beginning of the song on that record and went back to the vinyl to sample some more chops. When I heard "And what we have is much more than they can see" from the song on the record I got pissed and decided to go with another record.)

If you listen very closely to the "Much More" track by De La you can hear that it's the same exact sample looping every 2 bars - the way Dilla did the filter variations on that sample is ill.

Just my 2 cents - I barely post up anything on this b*tch anymore.

One mic alone proves that homeboy is one of the greats.

Then, listen to the song "Reason" by Nas produced by L.E.S.

Now let me just say that I thought "Much More" was dope the first second I heard it. Once I saw De La do it on Chappelle's Show, I had so so so so much more respect for this song and De La themselves. Now that's what I call lyracism. Pos and Trugoy are just sick wit it and Yummy's voice is just amazing.

Nas rides the beat on "Reason" and some girl named Emily does the chorus. It sounds so good, but the thing is that they both sound almost exactly the same.

NOW I HAVEN'T SAID ANYTHING ABOUT BITING.

JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE (BESIDES ME) NOTICES THIS.

It doesn`t matter which he used JayDee or Kanye`s Beat> What matters is that he bite from both. I have all the albums so I heard the same shit as you did. But my experience tells me this was a choice by NAS with a axe to sharpen by purposely having L.E.S jack those beats feel me. I would still called the moment of silence a Kanye Vibe cuz the tracks came out within months of each other. De La was cool how Jay Dee flipped it I thought it was a primo track until I read the credits (how Jay Dee was on that Primo preachin flow." But to put my point bluntly it was a direct choice of Nas to choose those tracks that were out before his album dropped. IT doesn`t matter if it was recorded yrs before or not. So dont get it twisted about moment of slience or Reason kid. I personally feel tha Nas is one of late great rappers left in the game. But son has a problems sometimes picking beats. L.E.S. is still my man along with Jay Dilla.

J Dee redid Aint no Frontin in your Future w Breed into Do you but he waited yrs later and added a little flavor to it. In Hip hop you can do everything within parameters to step forward but not at the same thing unless you bring the heat.

By the same neo-soul is Erykah Badu, Bilal, John Legend, Indrie, you name it singers, singers not rappers.

One love peace to the gods :D

Yeah Primo says something on the beginning of that De La track and he also scratches over it too.

Soul Quarians mothafu**a!!!

:)

erykah badu does a lot of work with people like common, the roots, and so does bilal. I guess that's why i think they sound the same.

By CRZ Fri Mar 25, 2005 10:49 pm
and people like that do bring that same "vibe" that kanye does.

except for on "jesus walks". I hate this song.

Ya'll cats are trippin on the real. Too many "GEEKS" taking this personal to a level of "Stealing"! Stealing would be one idiot producer letting another smart producer listen to his work and the smart kid takes its and does his thing and sells it.

I'm still a newby and getting by, but obviously none of you have sold beats? Most producers have CDs, Tapes, GBs of beats. Someone could of made a hit record in 1999 and sold it today. like Nas says "No ideas original", cats have different ears, thoughts, etc. but also we are all the same. Listening to records and choppin, flippin, etc. Lloyd Banks and Terror Squad have songs using the same sample, cats changed it up. Similarities come with sampling, same with keys..........

I don't believe this has anything to do with stealin, bite'n, but just diggin and flippin. This is not like Kanye using Ice Drakes beats to get a deal or Dre claiming Dazs work.

ummm what's wrong with stealing drums and naming them "rkellykick" "outkastsnare"etc. as my elder says "rule 1, does it sound good, rule 2, does it sound good".

the ways to remake a beat are to make a big name version of a less known beat (like Dre did with that Missing Linx beat on Chronic 2000, i think its the next episode) assuming that the listener doesn't know the beat already or else you can do a remixtype vibe so people know you're spitting on someone else's beat. the question i think should be about what the effect is on the listener, not whether its jacked but does a listener care. and nas sounds ill on just about anything, bottom line, jacked or not.

Elm, I usually agree with your taste in music, but this made you lose some cool points.

Nas had some ill classic joints (every single song on Illmatic, and random joints since), but "One Mic" was garbage.

Boooo for "One Mic" and boooo for Elmacaco for liking it. Both get the gasface.

Everyone has their personal taste and I have to respect that but in this case on a rare ocassion I have to agreed with Elm, One Mic is one of the most recent, lyricia,l socially aware, real, mc masterpieces in the 21st century. There isn`t a lyricist in any class that recently any come close to representing mcing at its best. with depth, delivery, feel, and flow that will be remembered even 10yrs from now. That the song for me that redeemed Nas at one of the greats. :D

Still I`m a life a bit*h fan. :D

Yeah, That song has that timeless quality that everybody knows and the buildups are sick, probably one of the few real classics like they used to make that came out around that time.

Stop all the Jilla did it first stuff because I know of TWO instances J using other peoples drums and musicians to make beats for HIM. So stop with all the people biting thing. Hiphop was founded on different crews using the SAME breaks and groups rhyming on the SAME beats at parties (reference Wild Style). So chill, some of ya'll take this sh!t WAY to serious!!! 8)

dilla is famous for taking breaks others have used and trying to flip them harder. he often succeeds.

Some people say that Nas was in a slump for a period of time. Around the time when he put out "I Am" and "Nastradamus". "Stillmatic" was ok but not as dope as "God's Son". And I have to say that "One Mic" wasn't as dope as everyone made it out to be. But I love Nas. And according to me, his slump ended when I heard "No Idea's Original". Alright Nas has been rapping for a minute now and everybody that knows something about Hip-hop, knows that Nas is one of the top dawgs in rap. "No Idea's Original" "No Idea's Original" "No Idea's Original".

If you haven't heard this song, please try to.

"No Idea's Original" by Nas, produced by Alchemist.

Alchemist with a dope beat and Nas just doing what he does best. :)

Check it out.
