mpc4000 filter opinions

Just curious b4 i purchase a mpc4000, are the lowpass filters strong enough in resonance to make basslines out of drum patterns?

As from my experience and my own development yes it did it for me. I had to learn from through time and using the qlinks it is easy for me.

the MPC4000 filters sound very "digital" to my ear,
although there are a lot of interesting filter shapes in there,
and they certainly do self-oscillate.

Considering the amount of sampling power on offer in the machine,
I can't think why you'd feel the need to want to make basslines out of the filter self-oscillating, though?
There'd be millions of better sounds you could utilise.....

As for that DIGITAl sounding bass, it may take a few extra steps but I find it affective if you filter your sound, play it to an external source then resample it and tweak the filters some more, you can beat that digital sound out of it. Works better the internal RESAMPLE 4 me.

I agree with Feline the filters can sound very digital, particularly when res is high but if you use the filters right they sound Great!, very detailed and accurate (Akai filters) , the BP's are great for catching mid range like vocals and brass , the HP's sounds sweat & the phraser and notch with some lfo make for the superb emotion of pads and stabbs, and I do believe I've gotten my LP to sound very analougish at times ..

they work fine for me for basslines.

I also use mine to filter out static from my records............they dont hinder the brightness of the sample as fast as the mpc2000xl did.
