data wheel BROKEN!! help!

whats up everybody.. seems i broke my data wheel. it no longer clicks when i turn it and it also doesn't change the values.. i think what happened was i left some records on top of it on my way back from los angeles and it broke the actual piece that turns on the circuit board when you turn the data wheel..

i called the repair center in pasadena, ca and they're sending me out a new part (i ordered two just in case.. $7.50 each).

i was wondering if this has happened to anybody else and if they fixed it themselves like i'm going to attempt to do and if so.. if they had some instructions or recommendations ? i'm in phoenix, az..

I just got my beat machine back today from getting my jog wheel fixed. I sent it to CTT here in atlanta. They ordered that same part from Cali... man they had my beat machine for a month. I don't even know if I know how to make beats anymore... I'm a little scared to plug it up.

I broke my data wheel swating a wasp in the house... (which way did he go....uuuuuh which way did he go George.... lol) Everyone on this sight has had a good laugh at that one.

Idon't think it's all that tough I opened mine up but didn't have access to the part so I just sent it to them. they charged me $117.00 US. No problem.

yea its real shitty man i am pissed at myself that i broke it.. in the meantime i guess i'll learn how to use the sequencer on my triton. (i've been using my mpc as a sequencer).. so maybe somethin good will come out of this?

anybody know how to repair this thing ?

mpc-tutor - do you know how to do this or know anybody that knows how to fix this?

just wanted to let everybody know that the part arrived today and i was able to successfully repair my MPC . here are some half ass instructions..

first off, remove the top cover of the mpc..

remove the screws from the board where the jog wheel is plugged in..

disconnect the ribbon cable that connected the drum pads to the board so that you can remove the board (theres a plastic piece you have to pull out towards the left before you remove the ribbon cable thats on the ribbon cable connector assembly)..

lift the board up from the mpc to about a 90 degree angle from where the mpc is (you won't be able to turn it completely over because of some hard to reach cable attachments)

turn the unit on its side and keep the mpc board at the 90 degree angle and place some sort of box or something to hold the board flat.. you should see the bottom side of the board so that you can unsolder the piece.

find the 5 solder connections that hold together the piece.. two of them are rather big connections and three are smaller and more close together.. unsolder each one and tug on the jog wheel assembly so that while your unsoldering.. your also pulling each pin out of the board.

once you've unsoldered and removed the old piece.. put the new piece in and solder it to the board... now put the unit back together and you should be good..

oh one last thing.. i dont think i even NEEDED a replacement part because when i removed the part.. i was able to take a closer look at the bottom of it and kinda just push it back into place so that the jog wheel made the ra-ta-ta when you spun it.. i think if i would have just done that and put it back it'd work fine.
