mpc3000 all alone??

this question is for the people that use pretty much only the mpc3000.. i love my asr and i like my 2kxl, but i really have no space and the thought of just using 1 machine is sounding better and better...not sure yet but i was thinking i might sell both and look for a machine that can equal out to the asr and 2kxl combo and i heard good things about the 3k..dont get me wrong, i love the asr/mpc combo but i really been wanting to minimize my setup to just a few things...so can anyone help me and tell me how it is using the 3k as a main machine.. thank you--peace

The 3K can easily be the sole machine in your setup.

But I will warn you that its sampling/editing featues are not as advanced as the ASR-10 or 2XL.


For that matter, either the ASR-10 or the MPC 2XL can also be the sole machine in your setup.

If I were you and there was no reason to specifically go to the MPC3000 and you only want one machine, give up the ASR10 or the MPC2XL and just keep one.

My final advice is, if you choose to go the MPC3000 or 2XL route, for space issues I would then add a rackmount sampler. My suggestion there would be the s5000/s6000.

I think a 3k is a good move because of it's power and simplicity, it will make things quick and you can get tracks done.

I would keep the ASR for now, get the 3k cuz you'll love it, and then get a rack of some sort to either complement or replace the ASR.

I would off the 2000XL and cop a 3000. No matter what you are still going to need a MIDI keyboard to work out musical ideas, and the ASR-10 stock sound libraries are actually on the DL some of the best sounds ever put together in a workstation. Like Elmac. was sayin a synth module would boost your whole sh** down the line.......Also, the 3000 in my opinion has a more robust output, especially on kicks and snares. I got an OG 2000 too, but I'm lovin the drum sounds I'm gettin from the 3000.

yea, to be honest, i really dont like the feel of my 2kxl at all... i love the asr but it is just way to big... if i sell both what would be a good complement to a 3k if i get one... thanx

If you really do love the ASR 10, you might consider getting the rack version with the 3000. You seem like a 3000 cat, I was kinda shocked when you said you had an XL. MPC and rack sampler is a dope combo, very compact. and you can always add another rack sampler later, but since you know the asr, if you like it, it makes sense to get the rack.

yea i was one of the dudes that just got my income tax check and kinda jumped into gettin a mpc about a yuear and a half ago and start making beats... i wish i kinda did my homework but i guess u learn from your mistakes.. but maybe i will get the rack witht he 3k.. thanx for your help..peace

i dunno if the asr rack would be the best rack to get. there is so many other racks that are more current and offer more features. the s5000 and s6000 and great. the esi racks are real nice also. I aslo have a yahama a5000 which is sick. They are dirt cheap and offer more recent technology then the asr.

Maybe I am biased (Ok I am) but there is no competition between those setups.

Dont get me wrong the 2XL and the ASR-10 is a great combo I will not lie. But the MPC 3K and the s5000 is ridiculous. The ASR-10 has a great sound and great filters. But the s5000 will open up a whole new world of music creation to you, that I will gurantee. Max 256mb ram, custom made instrument sets, filters and EQing. And the best part is that the s5000 offers 32 channels of midi through its indedpent 2XIN 2XOUT and 2XThru ports, now with the 3K and its 4 Midi outs, you really have yourself two samplers. I have it hooked up so that I have different sounds, insturments, drums, etc. on its own channel and its own out ( I would have to double up if I used all 32 channels but that is an extreme rarity). My s5000 has 16 outs .

This setup cant be beat. My 1 1/2 cents. I look at it as almost better than a 4000.

I would advise you too look at a sampler not only as a sampler (like the 3K, 2K) but as a synth in itself. In this area of sampler/synths the emu e4 series (e4XT, e6400, etc) and the Akai s5/s6 series reign supreme.

I just got mine checked up at the service center today and now she's purrin' like a kitten.

I own a 2kxl, asr10 and a fantom Xr. Im also thinking about upgrading to a 3k,4k or mv8000. But the more I use my setup, the more I get used to it, and dont feel the need to upgrade. The 2kxl is the weaklink out of the setup though, but I spent a few weeks doing nothing but editing drum sounds, and now I have killer sounds coming out of the 2k. My only real gripe about the 2kxl is its 'swing' Ive never used a 3k but it gets praised for its swing. I can get my 2kxl to swing nicely, but never exactly how I want it.

My asr10 will never leave me, imo its the greatest sampler ever created. But I have had it for a few years and know it like the back of my hand.......

Point is, maybe you should learn your gear for a bit. Getting different gear isnt going to make your beats better.

i know my asr10 just fine...but as i mentioned its more of a space issue.. the thing is a huge monster, and im more of a compact minimal type of person ... which is why im either thinkin of gettin the rack and upgrading my mpc2kxl to a 3k which i wanted to do for a while anyway, or tryin something new and if im not feelin it then get a rack.. not sure yet . im def. aiming towards the 3k tho
