:D

finally got my hands on an MPC thanks to kasabians ex drummer :))) what a waste of good kit!!!!!!!!!!

succefully de-scummed the MPC and cleaned inside and out (alot of indie-toe-jam in the buttons)

formatted the un cut beat loops (how lame) from the zip disks

and got one zip drive talking sweet music to my mpc on ID 5 no probs

BUT..... as i understand it you cannot assign the zip to SCSI ID 6????

i want 2 drives simultaneously ..... is this even possible ??

as im sure lots or you pro's know there is only the option of 5 or 6 on the back of iomega zip drives???

i also have a JAZ 2gb drive - but am lacking the riight cables ( a little info on if these work with mpc's would be nice before i buy any leads! )

heres a little info on my MPC ...

only paid 250 quid the other day from academy of sound in leicster .... it comes with the optional 8 out & digi card (bonus) and i think it has the F/x card but am not sure as i cannot get the f/x routed to my sounds - the menu appears to the multi f/x and reverb so i assume that the effects are there....also i opened the underneath of the MPC to see what expansions were there.... looking down on the machine with its underside facing me and the floppy facing my body i noticed that something is missing on the left (the little adapter has something like fmx8000 written on it (is that the slot for the optional flashROM?) anyhow next to that is some sort of card fitted in an expansion slot , its in the middle at the front (is this my f/x card i wonder????)

hmmm thats a lot of questions for now!!! (what do uu expect from a newby) hehe

im only new to the MPC i have many other samplers and some excellent vinyls in my collection so im not a virgin to the beats scene just the akai scene!!

thanks in advance!

First and foremost Welcome to the family.O.k now, with the zip all you have to do is switch the i.d. on the back to 6 and when you flip through devices (Shift+3)it should detect it.But if it's runnin good on 5 why switch? Now with the jaz drive you can connect both but it's overkill.IMO.One or the other should be sufficient. But if you reallly need it make sure the last device on the daisy chain is terminated.

Now,you think something is missing when you opened it.It probably is the FlashRom which is rare to find.Don't sweat it,it's not a must. But it would be nice.As far as the effects i can't tell you exactly because i don't have the Eb16.But if you go into F5 to access the effect screen you should be able to tell if it's in or not. When i do it on mine it says Effects not installed.

I'm sure i missed a ? or two, if so, just post back and we'll help as much as possible. This is the best sight on the web for information pertaining to any Akai product.Operating, maintance, anything you can think of you can find it here.

Once again bro,Welcome to the family.

if you really need two.....then install a zip drive in the place of your floppy drive......but you really dont need two......I could see a zip drive, cd-rom and a hard drive.......its all up to you tho......
