If you have more then 16 slices, it is going to put them on different banks.....
are you sure that you have the pads setup Chromatically like Recycle is expecting or do you
still have them in the default (GM Standard)?
If you have it at the default, take a look at the note numbers of each pad. You will then understand why the samples are all on different banks.... They need to be in the order of a keyboard, just as Chromatic gives you....

i believe this is what renegade was refering to.. no love for mac users.. i'll check my nuendo out to see if it has a slicing function and midi export (this would go for cubase aswell) because it has an internal editor.

It doesnt support the mpc4000's .akp file format... it could have been dope otherwise.

Nope, but it does support REX's. So you save it as a REX file, load that up in Recycle and then export as a .akp

why not just chop in the Sample Regions section. set your desired regions, put'em where you want'em and slice it!
actuel
after checking out all of the external editors i could, actuel speaks the truth.
and i noticed that when i chop into regions just by making the amount of regions to the size of notes i want to slice a bar into.. (4 regions for a 4th note sized slices, 8 regions for 8th note sized slices.. ect) that i got a better slice than i would from recycle ect.. and this is because mpc sets the start point regions by deviding a loop into equal sections instead of by detecting peaks in audio. the benifit of this being you get the smaller front end of the drum hit that usualy gets cliped off by other editors.
think about it.. when the drum stick hits a drum the peak isnt when it first strikes the drum its slightly after, so the 4000 captures this with regions..
and since some drummers arent perfectly on time you can always adjust the start and stop point of the region to suit the original timing so that you can either correct it by making the start of the region closer the peak (at the actual begining) or keep it as such to keep the original swing by leaving the dead space before the note..

And don't forget that sexy new feature where you can use the Q-link faders to tweak start- and endpoints. Works really well. Add to that the special playback modes when playing the top 4 pads (esp. play-from for start, and play-to for end) and you have a very nice slicing tool!

I just RTFM part that described the top 4 pads play function and I almost fainted. I am new to the 4000 (not to MPCs) and when I was chopping I thought that this would have been an amazing feature as I am so used to the type of looping in soundforge. I havent tried it yet, but if it works like SF, bye bye SF!

yeah - the 4 pads are great to chop ... the sliders too ...
and one other thing i ve always been questioning: create new sequence. the 4k creates a new sequence based on its 960 ppq resolution. what abut recycle and the others - how do they create its midifile? ... can u select a variable ppg to chop into in recycle? ... is it done on 96 or 960 ppqs? or even some other number?

If I understand correctly Recycle isn`t a sequencer just works with threshold finding peaks in a file and adding slice set according to the sensitvity. By using the grid function I set for 8 or 16 notes(half the bar resolution) take care.

yo - thanx blue haze for answering ... yeah - agreed ... but then recycle does midifiles too ... so - there gotta be a way how recycle handles this - you say half the bar resolution - so your sayin the recycle resolution is 480? .... dunno ... recycle is surely a nice tool and it will be faster but i doubt it does things better or at least as good as the 4k ... and - besides that - if i still chop in rcycle will i be able to use the sexy shufle feature of the 4k?

Sexy shuffle feature? I know this cant be the official name...what is this you speak of, do you mean slice to sequence?

I think that recycle basically lays out a note for a chromatic keyboard just starting from C2 or C3 on up with a midi note included. According to which program or instrustment you decide to use. Which the notes are in your 4k sampler aka sequencer you can use the 4k to edit the midi notes and change the note assignment to your liking by converting keygroup program to drum program. Now you can do drum and bass editing, quantize the notes, change the samples and use the 4k`s shuffle as sexy as you like.

Indeed -
now - if ya havent used it before ... take a nice loop (... to startout a drumloop is nice to use ... ), set the regions as you like first and than shuffle your regions to your likin in shuffle region ... press do it - and you ll hear a new loop playin ... and then feel free to call it as you like ... hth ...
yo - haze thanx for comin back again ...
