You probably just need to save it to the Xl flashrom/harddrive.I use the 2K so,when i turn my joint of i just make sure the zip with the o.s is in my external drive so when it powers up it recognizes the o.s.Since i don't have a flash rom.

I'm reading 1.20 is causing alot of problems with xl's. I too did that VERY
same thing cause I was going to upgrade to a CF. I chenged back to
floppy, loaded back 1.14 and even with the card reader I'm ok now. I'm
staying at 1.14.

so everybody who has 1.2 (or is it 2.0??) has to save it to the default (auto load) drive ?

another question if you please....

why is it that when i save my song to a zip .... i save the .all and then the .aps and sounds (my snd's originated from different folders) to a new folder .... and reload the .all and .aps ....why do some of my sounds not load .... i mean some samples just dont come back? as i am writing this im thinking the drive might be full because all the missing snd's are all the bigger files ??? but i had no warning to say that it couldnt save some samples...is that normal ???

thanks peops....jazzur

All MPC2kxl dont need boot up disks...They boot from the flash installed. Maybe u need to reinstall the OS to your flash.

Also make sure you save programs and samples in the same folder. MPC's aint good with searching thru multiple folders - Keep it all in the same place. Jus lable things well for good reference

Ps. It's OS 1.20. I use it because I use a 1GB CF card. The update extends the maximum amount of Megs the MPC can recognise as a whole partition.
With the update, my CF works as one partition. With the earlier OS, the MPC would recognise the 1st 980Mb or something like that, then partition the rest

thnks, i got it all in one folder now..... loads perfect everytime

cant sort out the O.S problem though!

i only know one way of installing it - and thats in the load screen...i goto file:mpcxl.bin thingy and DO IT then it gives me the window saying gonna write to flash, so i do that and then any key to restart, but everytimes it restarts ...it asks for mpc2000xl disk??

Use a fresh formatted (FAT) floopy or zip...Download a fresh OS from the akai site -1.14.

Extract it directly to the disk

Put the disk into the MPC.....Before u turn it on, hold down REC & OVER DUB then turn it own (All at the same time). The MPC should boot off the disk perfect (If the OS is fine and the disk is fine)

Then go into the load screen and load that OS. It will now rewite it the the installed flash and prompt u to press any key to restart when complete. On doing that, the MPC should boot up as normal.

Try it

I have 1 x 512mb cf so I haven't ran into that problem yet, haha.
Thanks for the tip though.

i tried everything you said BRAVO even using 1.14 pressing the red keys and restarting etc....

but still it asks for the disk?

whats the LOAD/SETUP/ primary device...auto laod all about and whats yours set to? is that calling the floppy?

Ur primary device in this case should be floppy (Unless u got a zip installed, which would then be ATAPI....Turn off auto loading.

What I told u to do would have by passed the insert boot disk stage. The boot seq would have prompted the MPC to load/boot from the floppy with no questions asked.

At the mo your flash sounz ill if it is not storing the OS when you write/load it...Keep at it.

Try going into save screen....Can you copy OS to disk, or is it not even there?

hmmm i tried it again a few times today no matter what i do how i format the floppy etc... it still asks for the mpc2000 disk on boot up...

...im starting to think your right about the flash Rom !

but the main thing is it still works from the floppy fine - having said that earlier this morning i had a strange CRASH where it went to what looked like a memory test screen but still had some recognisable functions at the bottom of screen (BARS,SEQ,MEMORY etc,..) shortly after it froze ...had to power off .... No doubt my machine wont be stable again until i have Flash Rom (where do you get these? ive searched ebay) and these flash Roms are NOT the same as the F-ROM expansion are they??

i really appreciate your help Bravo - i cant wait to ask more FUN questions about beats n filters....thanks man!

I think I will have to step aside from this one now....I dont know what else to suggest. Perhaps the machine became unstable when u tried to do the update of 1.20

The MPC lets its guard down when its writing to the flash so any little thing can cuase it problems. I think maybe that was the point at which things went bad....

You need to send that into the service guys so they can do their thing...It may be need to be reset/formatted or whatever it takes. For now I spose u just have to leave the disk in the drive on boot ups

At first you said 2000xl, and v1.20 OS, cool, now you say 2000. Which one? 2kxl should not need a boot disk, something is wrong if you keep needing that. Take it to a repair center.
