Wats the point of the Hard disk space??

If memory on the 4k is volatile, then wat is the point of hard disk space?? can i store data on my 4k permanently if i install it with a hard drive?

Iam not talking about RAM by the way.

I'm no electronic engineer but here's what most of us should at least know

volatile memory is called RAM and need some electric current to keep datas (that's why when you switch off your MPC all the informations stored in RAM "Random Acces Memory" is erased and cannot be retrieved)

non-volatile memory are hard drives, Flash memory,...
they are called non-volatile memories cos they can store data for years without any need for electric current
thing that can erase these kind of memories are magnetic disturbances such as those provoked by magnets or any electro-magnetic devices that include magnets, solar radiations, (we don t have much of those thanks to the ozone layer that protects Earth)....

so, in a word, when you store data on a hard drive it stays on it for years so no problem with keeping your samples and all that when you have one installed in your beloved MPC 4000

Hello, first post, hope it goes well. What are the exact specs of the type of internal HDs that will work with the 4000? I'm trying to replace a drive, and I can see that it's serial ata. I bought a 133 drive from frys, and it crashes the machine. will it only work with a 100?

so what your telling me is that my mpc4k can be installed with a hard drive, right??

thats sweet then man. iama upgrade that as soon as i can.

is the hard drive supoosed to be special?? or can it be any PC hardrive??

It is a special hard drive. It only mad in tasmania, and it is made of fine chrome alloy. Pretty expensive.

I dunno exactly but any IDE hard drive until 120GB should work fine in your MPC
need to be formatted to FAT32 standard

for bigger hard drives bigger than 120GB, you might be able to partition them into several partitions no bigger than 127GB each, but this ain't for sure, I nver tried it, maybe someone did...

Well I'm currently using a 120GB Western Digital HD at the moment but I would definitely upgrade to a 250GB or more if this is possible.

Can someone comment if they've been successful in doing so?

nah the biggest it will recognise is 120

did you try the method I suggested ?

Dont mean to be taking the piss with all the questions but how can i find out how much hardrive space i got on my 4k?

in the load menu, select wich drive you wanna load from and a window will apear with the drives you got connected in your MPc

you'll see something like 65GB free
that tells you what free space you got on that drive

I dunno any other methods to detect HD space
