External Hard Drive not detected!!!! Can someone help me

i just hooked up a external HD and a cd-rom to my mpc2000xl.I used a daisey chain to hook them up with the cd rom into the HD,and the HD going to the mpc...When i hit Shift then Load...it detects the cd-rom but not the HD...Did i hook this up wrong?Or do i need to do somethig else?

is the hard drive terminated?
is it an akai approved one?
is the size of the HD too big? ( i dont think this is it I think that if you put too big a hd on it just dont recognize the extra size.)
is the HD busted?

naw,i have the cd rom terminated...And its not that big,and the guy i bought it from had it working with the same mpc...thanks for the help dr. foo.......im gonna try swithing the two around,and put the terminator on the HD

well i tried switchin the cd-rom and hd...nothing happened...It never can detect the HD....Im goin nuts cause i cant work on the mpc cause i cant save it.And i dont wanna make somethinig good that im gonna just lose when i turn it off....Anyone have any ideas or know what im doin wrong?
