Like when you have a beat in your head and I want to get it down QUICKLY onto the MPC...

I can never get the tap tempo to match what's in my head.

thats what you need to practice then. You need to practice getting the tap tempo to match whats in your head.

or

Just hit record and play and adjust the bpm to the tempo in your head as hit plays.

knod to the beat in your head and hit tap tempo at the same time. Have the volume turned down. It takes time to get it down, but it works.

if you have a beat in your head, just tap your feet to the beat. once you got that down, tap the tap tempo button to what your feet are doing. that's the easiest way to explain it. if not, just create a seq with HHats on every whole note 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4 or on every 1/8th note 1an-2an-3an-4an-1an-2an-3an-4an, then adjust the tempo up/down until it sounds like what you are thinking.

So when you tap out the tempo do you do it on every beat? It seems like it only works when I do it on the 1&3 beat.

you can't get the tempo to hit with just one tap, it needs at least 3, but you should shoot for 4. Just hit the button with each head knod

or turn on the metronome and adjust the tempo....

I guess I wish there was a way to set the tempo by just banging out a beat on the pads.

This is not rocket science. everyone is telling you the easiest way of doing it. no disrespect, but if you can't follow this, then music is not your niche, and try something else.

honestly, if you read what i said earlier and just tap it 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4, you will get your tempo.

haha, I've taken six years of piano, I think I know how to count in 4/4 ;)

One the MPC the tempo keeps changing when I tap it out. Especially for slower tempos.

so then just tap it until you get to near what you want and then manually adjust it either with the data wheel or numerically. I said what i said b4 cuz it really isn't hard to get a tempo by taping it. Your repeated questions on this just says (imo) that you are having a hard time getting a tempo.

The Tap Tempo button doubles as Note Repeat: when I try to use Note Repeat, I change the tempo!
Keep a constant pressure on the button when using Note Repeat, avoid sudden movements that could be interpreted as taps.
You can change the number of Taps required for Tap Tempo from 2 to 4: Mode=Other, the Misc page. This prevents false tempo changes from hitting the button twice by mistake.


I just found this in the MPC faq. This will out help alot, I think mines set at 2 right now.
