some more questions on the mpc 3000..my new baby....

1. how come in the "timing correct" screen when i shift the note value to 1/32 note i cant adjust the swing..
on every other note i can adjust swing except this one..
i know there is no swing on triplets but if its on 1/32 note i should be able to..
shouldnt i???

2. i am using my mpc3000 as a master and my asr 10 as my slave/sampler for right now, and i was wondering how do i set my midi note assign..
for example if my asr 10 has a kick on the f2 key how do i assign that key to A13 on the mpc???
i tried going to programs-->hit 1 for assign snds--> and on the screen that comes up i cant figure out how to do it..
its driving me nuts...
(by the way i am using o.s. 3.03 till further notice, gonna order 3.14 from a gentleman in australia, just have to pay the bills first )

3. how do i check the memory on the 3000??
when i got it the owner told me it had 16mb ram and i believed him but i didnt make a big issue of it either because i only paid $900 for it..
sold my 2000xl to get it

1. That's normal. It don't swing on 1/32. It doesn't on the XL so I would assume it's the same.

2. You can't do that. It's on whatever pad that goes with the key it's assigned on the ASR. You can't assign sounds that aren't in the MPC.

3. Don't know.

1, no swing on 1/32, double your tempo and 16 will be 32nd notes, effectivly the same thing.

2.Go to midi> assign midi note numbers, and you can assign any midi note to any pad, hopwever, i suggest you assign them chromatically, Pad A1=midi note 35, then A2=36 all the way up through the 4 banks. Then you can use the pads as controller or the keyboard amd all your programs will match midi wise, and you can span a number of keys and it will be sequential on the pads too.

3. not sure about the old OS, but go to the sample screen and see how long you can sample for, or, start with the mpc empty and try to load one sound from disk, it will show you the available memory.

ok it says i have 22 sec. of sample time..that would be how many mb?

not 16 haha, just joking, but serious....that's not upgraded memory, my 60 has more

yeah that's the stock 2Megabites, you have no memory chips inside. Go to mpc3000.com and get the memory from the place they recomend, it's really cheap and easy to install.

yes it is less than the 60 has in terms of seconds, but it is sampling at 16 bit, that's why it needs more room. I was really surprised at how many people who use the 3000 (professionals) just have the stock 2MB's, because they just sample a couple of drum sounds into it and then sequence their expensive stuff with it, for years, winning awards and such.

Many 3000 users came from the 60, so they are used to having short sample time.

I still prefer my 60

Nothing I'd trade my 60 for though.

so i start assigning my midi notes on the mpc right, but every time i start bangin them out it freezes my asr 10,...
why is that??
my mpoc 2000 never did that..
what the hell is going on??

you might have some kind of midi signal loop going on

my best guess which is admitedly pretty poor

Maybe you are causing some midi lockup on the ASR 10 by swtching the midi note assignments in some way. Did you ever switch midi assignments on your XL while connected to the ASR 10? It is the ASR 10 IMO that can't handle whatever the midi is generating when you switch the midi notes.

Just set up your midi notes, save it, then reboot the asr 10, all should be fine.

My ASR-10R flipped out when I had MTC going through it. I would get weird pauses and stutters. I think the ASR-10 does not like a whole lot of Midi stuff going on so keep it to a minimum.

i'll try the whole reboot the asr after setting the midi note assignments tonight when i get home from work..
i wouldnt be surprised to find out the asr gets quirky after setting the asignments...
