midi problem

i did a search and can't find anything that helps. i'm hooking up my mpc to my comp through the joystick port but Cool Edit doesn't read it.. i'm using the settings that have been posted in the board and everything is hooked up correctly but CEP never says it's locked up with the mp, the status just says "Opened MIDI/Input Sync Trigger". maybe i'm doing something wrong or missing a step?

What exactly do you want to do ?
What do you mean by CEP doesn't read it ?
