Yes yes,

When I chop up a drum break I tend to chop from the beginning of the sound right to the beginning of the next sound (E.G Beginning of the kick to the beginning of the following hihat)......so at the end of each sound I get a bit of spare noise....so I envelope the sounds in the PARAMS screen on my 2KXL.....

I sometimes find it hard to get the correct envelope on the kicks snares and hats to make the beat sound nice.....not too jumpy and not too muddy.......I normally switch the decay mode to START and set the decay to between 16 - 23.....it does vary but all to often I am spending loads of time trying to get this spot on....and it can get quite frustrating.....

Does anyoone else do this? what kind of envelope range do you normally use?? does anyone have any advice on this?

Any guidance would be much appreciated....

why not try chopping closer to the end of the sound instead of leaving so much space in the end?

not a good idea, Smoove. Firstly, the XL automatically puts an envelope of 30ms on the chop (unless you change that manually), and two, it just sounds choppy if you have it cut off too abruptly.

Leave the extra tail on it, dont bother to change it. I dont change my decay at all, it sounds more natural.

oh ok. coo guess your right. im workin with the 2000. but i've never had a problem with the beat sounding muddy if i left a tail on the end...

I just find when its a particularly crusty break... and I rearrange the drums, sometimes I get tail ends overlapping and it doesn't sound very punchy....

I spose I just gotta find sum middle ground...

thanks for the replies anyway....

try making the drum sounds cut off each other. that way they won't overlap
