What's going on with this joint. The breakdown? It sounds like he slows the sequence to half time for one measure then double time for a measure and then back into the groove. Anybody know what I'm talking about and what exactly was done there

yeah the tempo definitely changes.

They did that in Protools. My friend Cochise (engineer for the Beatnuts) help do the mix on that!

Do you know what exactly they did? Because it doesn't sound like it's just half time to me

I'm not going to lie to you. I'm NOT an engineer so you got me on that. But I do know Melodyne was used.

that joints def hot.my recommendation? EXPERIMENT and try to replicate it if u really wanna find out. thats alot more useful than just being told how to do it

I don't know if you want to change the pitch of the audio or the midi sequence, but sonar 4.0 can do both.

Melodyne is sick but glitchy, I wonder is you could do tempo changes that slow down like that on the MPC, I've never tried.

It sounds like a slow decreace then it goes back up quick.

Hot ass track though, doom kills it.

word there's that pitchbending tool in soundforge that can do that

not pitch, it's a timestretch kind of effect, or just slow it down with midi, which is my guess seeing as how the samples have more space between them in the slow parts.

Elmac is right...just use the tempo change funtion to replicate this effect.

I have done it many times...You just set the tempo to what ever you need it to be at particular bar in your song...

I.E Bars 1-4 start off at 98 BPM...then u set a tempo change to occur at bar 5 for 96 BPM...then at bar 7 its 94BPM & bar 9 92BMP & so on...then at say bar 17 its back to 98BPM...

Another example of this is on J-Lives 'Them thats not' Fantasticly done.

YEAH that's it, slow motion regulated via midi.

But I'm still on my way to find how I can slow down a single sample in my mpc without checking for software...

The only way to do it the way u mentioned will be to use the Tuning function...but that by definition will throw out any tuning critical programming you have done,.....also...the tuning rates aren't so great any way...
If you're gonna wanna slow stuff down alot & so that all the (mid to Longish) oneshots are in time..is to use time stretch.

Time stretch in a lot of hard ware machines is good for shorter stuff (Like in my Emu Sampler)

But if i want to time stretch something substantial that has a need to preserve audio fidelity...i'll use software...Pro Tools or wotever...
