Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By bleepfreak Mon Apr 04, 2005 1:11 pm
Just being curious.

Is anyone going to the Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany next week?
http://musik.messefrankfurt.com/global/en/home.html

AKAI Professional America will be there, among others ofcourse (Hall 5, Level 1, Walkway A, Stand 26)

I am going there on friday april 8. If there is any hot news on the MPC front I'll post my personal findings here on saturday 9.

It would be nice to meet some of you fellow MPC / MPC-forums users there...

Good to hear that you'll post a report. Please ask the Akai people about the MPC 2500.... :)

hey bleepfreak would you be so kind to print the whish list and give it to them ?
Thanks !

SAMPLER

- Intellisampling.
- EQ on mixer page.
- Sample loop lenght destination in the modulation matrix for granular synthesis and granular fx.
- more mod destinations (filt env and aux anv l1, l2, l4; lfo 1&2 beat.
- More start points in sample edit (that's cool i could see that one as a good alternative to choping samples, instead of choping loops you could just set startpoints and just assignthe same sample on the pads but with a differents startpoint for each of them !)
- An auto pad assign function for editted samples.
- Auto assign to whole keyspan/or to the next available/white note.
- More filters.
- Stream samples from hard drive.
- Edit sample original note by midi keyboard and access to original note in Ak-sy.s.
- Lock loop lengh in sample loop page.
- Different roll types, maybe customizable.
- Chord Memory (Assign multiple notes to a pad for 1 finger chord triggering)
- Time Line Grid in trim & region window (4 8 16 32 64th)
- One shot loop mode ( play/stop with the pads )
- Better FX algorythm.

SEQUENCER

- Randomise by +/- 0-127 of current value in the velocity multiedit window.
- Splitting function for drum tracks.
- Possibility to select not only contiguous events in seq/step edit.
- Possibility to set different lengh for each track.
- 8 tracks of hard disk recording or RAM based recording.
- Cut note length graphicaly.
- The ability to hold down "rec" in the main mode, and step in your pad events, and use the transport buttons to advance, and add rests.
exactly like the mpc2000xl.
- Access to data in step edit / seq edit when the sequencer is running.
- TC window pad / time field monitoring during playback.
- TC window should retain selection Range and Pad/Notes selection when you access the TC window from seq edit, like added in 1.6 for the Copy To function and is also available for the EDIT functions in seq edit.
- Ability to record solo's.
- Groove templates.
- From MAIN, Track window : COPY track also to another sequence.
- Move Seq loop via Shift+Locate.
Shift+ Bar: >> << = moves "loop
Shift + Step:>> << = Moves "loop-points.
- Song mode : Create a song in real time by using the "Next Sequence" feature.
- Import midi file into TRACK as well as sequence.
- Mute memory, so you could set up 'gang mutes triggered in real time by the mpc's pads.

MISC

- Save entire projects in a ".prj" file.
- Recyclysh chop system.
- full featured Ak-sys software (edit sequence/data/events etc...)
- Screensaver.
- Support 1gb ram (we can dream :).
- full parameter list describtion (hz, mscecs values, ... for cutoff, lfos, and so on ...)
- Empty default programs with values on reset position and possibility to store template programs.
- Q-link: show the actual value of the q-link.
- Audition sample from ext hard drive/load page while sequence playing.
- Move folders in hard drive and Ak-sys.
- Apple loops/acid/rex import.
- User Definable shortcuts via SHIFT + F1-6 soft-keys per window/mode.
- Arpeggiator.
- Mixer and Pad to have their own Midi Channel number and Midi CC chart.
- Solo per sample/sound.
- In TC window/Swing humanize note funtion.
- Burn as audio on cd/zip/etc

FIX

- When sample(s) are setup in Program to play 'Note Off' in the 'play trigger' screen, if you then hit 16 Levels you'll notive that with 'Note Off' selected you can't activate Tuning. only the Velocity setting works.
- "Add to program” and “copy to pad” make the destination pad audible and visually display the destinations pad sound name.
- Separate “Pad Bank” buttons status from “ Program -Mute Mode & Seq Trigger” button status, so each pad status/mode will be individual from eachother.
- After recording in SEQ EDIT, the click still carrys on even after stoping the rec mode

Hi Phunk. Didn't you already send this list to [email protected] ?

yes i did but i never had feedback so it might as well has end up in the trash, who knows...

Hi all,

Yesterday I was at the musikmesse. Man it was huge! I'd never been there before. Yamaha even has it's own hall... I wandered around all day and visited some of my friends that work for or own a company that had a stand somewhere at the messe. I had a fun time but got home really, really tired.

AKAI had a (very) small stand at the Alesis booth. I briefly spoke to someone from Alesis. I asked for Sean and he unfortunately told me that Sean no longer works for AKAI and [email protected] no longer exists as a valid e-mail address for sending in bugs. They will come up with a new betatest system for the OS. This was definately not the right place nor moment for me to hand over a feauture wishlist, I'm sorry.

But... I believe now, neverthless I sincerely regret the fact that Sean no longer works for AKAI because I really liked him as a contact for AKAI and for his participation at the various MPC forums (thanks Sean!), AKAI will have a more professional approach from now on and that the 'new AKAI' really wants to make the best of it. Let's hope I'm right.

No news about new AKAI products. It was still the old familiar line.

yhea cheers for the feedback bleep,!!

rumors had it there was a MPC500 around ??

no word on 4k os release?

perhaps we should fix up the focus on that wish list just a bit, there where quite a few suggestions that never made it, and there are some request on that list that are for future 5k list and are unrealistic for the 4k!?

1) For sure not at the AKAI stand. There were a MPC1000 a MPC4000 a Z8 (or 4 I didn't check which one) and a not-so-blue-DSP24.

2) Nope, nada. The MPC on the stand even ran on OS 1.6 (I checked)

3) Yes I think we should.

And they call themselves Akai Professional. This is a VERY unprofessional move.

If the Software/Hardware company that I worked for removed the 1 and only communication line from it's customers... all hell would break loose.

It's good to know that the new Akai does not care to find bugs in the MPC 4000.
As in the past, they haven't been very good at catching them, themselves and have had
to rely on their end users to point out there programming mistakes. Now that they've indicated that they do NOT care which bugs are found and how they affect their end users, I have to seriously reconsider any furture purchases.

I did just confirm that [email protected] is bouncing back.

That was just a rumour. The same article on Gear Junkies also said that Alesis was considering purchasing Akai.

Welll.... Numark owns Alesis and Akai so I don't think THAT"s going to happen, so I discounted everything in that article (new MPC, Z8 discontinued & Alesis buying Akai) as
a bunch of "hogwash".... so to say...

yeah - thanx for the feefback bleepfreak - even if the news aint that good! ... sean left, [email protected] aint active anymore ... autch - so currently there is no other bug or feature wishlist address?

as for the feature wishlist - imo its quite alot too and we should shrink it to adress the most important issues (dunno - imo we should surely keep all feature wishes for later ...) - but there are sitll some missing which we talked about ... - phunk - could you please ad them or some of them?

for the sequencer:

- copying parts of a bar for an entire sequence (ie: from 001:02:000 to 002:03:000 - we been talkin bout it quite some time ago ... sometime last year!)

- tc-wndow: if tc is set to off - allow higher numbers to be inserted for shift amount (currently the maximum is a 1/16!) would be dope to be able to shift timing a shift amount of at least 1-2 bars (why not unlimited?).

- also - for the tc 1/4 (3), 1/4 and 1/2 (3) and so on were dope to be added ... must even be easy to implement that sorta things - its only different numbers to be applied - algorythm is already there!

as ever ... features are lotsof - maybe even too many ... what about a poll?

Thanks for the feedback bleepfreak !
Have they pushed the self destruct button? it's very worrying indeed that the last link between akai and their customers has been removed !
AS for the wish list is it still worth updating it since we can't send it to anyone anyway ?
