To those who have resently purchased the MPC4000

This question is really addressed to anyone who has purchased an MPC4000 staright out a sealed box from a retail store in the last 6 months. I'm about to purchase a 4000 and I wanna know if Akai has pretty much worked all of the bugs out of the machine before I fork over the money for it.

The newest operating system is solid,and you won't regret your purchase. I can't see not using my 4000. I actually went to Logic 7,and went back to my 4000.

same here, got the mpc, got tired of the bugs so started using logic again. two weeks later I was back to the mpc. it's just got the edge over any software sequencer in my opinion. you'll be freakin in no time, it's got a very hands on approach...

the latest os is version 1.7.. it's real easy to update it. you download the os loader from the site, hook your computer to the mpc via usb and just drag the bin. file onto the mpc icon and that's it.

version 1.7 is real tight, i've had no glitches whatsoever and i really use the machine inside out. there's a future update in the worx, which should be giving some new features. that's one great thing about the mpc. there's been a lot of user input on features and the machine gets updated from time to time... honestly this machine is a beast... it's got a steep learning curve if you are new to electronic music production, but with a bit of basic
knowledge, you should be banging beats in a matter of minutes..

There are bugs in ALL software (whether MPC 4000 or Logic 7).
You just might not know of or see the bug, so are unaware of it.

very true...you do have a point....I just wanna make sure that I will have no problem when I'm trying to create.....

Just to inform you, every mpc 4000 is the same, if you bought one second handed 4 years ago, its the same machine you can buy at Guitar Center, brand new, today.

boght mine like 3 or 4 months ago.
even the newest OS has bugs. so does everything. its all about working around it.

I just found out that you can work with best of both worlds really easily. A midifile can be dragged and dropped from the MPC's memory directly into Logic's arrange window with ak.sys. That works so fast no save dialogs etc. To get the data back in the MPC is a little more work. Export to disk and drag into ak.sys.

However I still have to think of a good way to preserve the MPC's output routing with the direct drag & drop method though. Saving to the computer HD and importing the midifile into Logic preserves the MPC routing, dragging doesn't as far as I could see yesterday.

Does anyone has more info to share on this subject?

but it seems that you have to be in a main mode or at least not in seq / step editmode to be able to drag directly into an application like logic
