best strings on a module? motif, triton, proteus?

looking for the best strings on the market. would prefer a module over an actual keyboard, however. ive read that the proteus is pretty good but would need some kind of expansion card for maximum sounds. overall quality is key too. looking to spend around 800 bucks on something. any suggestions?

garritan personal orchestra is supposed to be the shit when it comes to orchestral sounds. Although that's software.

well the proteus has an orchestra card you can install. i heard thats pretty tight

I have the Motif, and I love it. You might want to check out the Motif ES it has to be hot too.

I use triton. you can try triton rack.

Its combi mode is very good for strings, cause you can layer up 8 programs. So not only can you have a very nice string sound (a program) you can take 8 of those and layer. Sort of like a mini orchestra. and that is aside the fact that each program has 4 layers within them selves.

When its in combi, you can change things like envelope, delay, effects etc. on each sound to create depth.You know, like mix the obie sound back alittle, keep the violin in front etc. by mixing them applying insert effects, and messing with delays, pitch etc. on each program.

You can also apply arpegiao to one of the sounds so you can have slow strings, but a fast pluck going with the piccato strings.

You can create thunks or whatever.

I know 50cents "in da club" uses the triton for those strings, its a similar preset on the expansion rom.

I think youd be good with any of those 3 you mentioned, its more in your programming, and arrangements to get them to sound real or really good. I suggest listening to classical music also so you kind of get a feel to how strings should be played.

how much did you pay for that cyrus? just curious. was it worth the money?

I payed 2600 for a triton studio 76 key.

It was worth the money because thats the price of the 61 key version.....................however, Overall id say compared to like a triton rack, its not worth the price, because i dont use the triton studio for all its other features. i mean, i basically use it as a sound module via midi to my mpc, and design sounds on it.....................I dont need its sequencer, or sampler............

But i think its something nice to add to any arsenal. If you just use presets your gonna get sick of it, but I like its interface to create sounds its differant from the emu i got. On the emu i feel like im just using filters..........not so much really creating a sound, just flipping thourhg the rom and tweaking. On the triton I can actually say "this needs more pluck" or "this needs more bass, or it needs more lows" or I want a piano sound mixed in with this clav or a bongo would go with this pluck, etc......... and actually make it happen.

I've had all these boards and imo the Mo has the best strings, although the Triton does have some really nice combis. Somebody mentioned Garritan orchestra, smashes all these boards in the string, brass department.

the expansion cards for the emu and the triton use some of the same samples from Peter Siedlaczek.

Smoove, i feel ya on space. I have plenty of space but somehow it seems like my keyboard gets in the way, plus its gigantic. I wouldnt recomend getting anything bigger than 61 key, unless its permanant.

But i wish i would have gotten all modules, then just a midi keyboard.

And yeah, im a triton advocate, but what ever works for you, if you try it out thats the best. I want a motif just because ive already used my triton. I dont really have complaints with it except the sequencer (but i use my mpc anyways) actually, i hate its sequencer because im so use to the mpc...Be sure to try it out. THe triton really works with me and how i like to make sounds. Im not one of those people who bought it because the neptunes use it..or whoever. It has been used by alot of artists, and for a good reason, its good, and you can really make it your own and personalize it. Every program you can overwrite. Plus with a few edits, you can flip a patch into something completely differant. You dont have to know alot about synthesis you just have to experiment.

I really recomend it for strings..........but try it out for yourself, just because i like it doesnt mean you will. And ontop of that....the piano on it is decent to not so good, i like my emu zr76 piano better. Although it can get the job done its a little thin. The organs are good. The guitars are mediocer i think motif is better in that area (i hate keyboard guitars anyways) BUt any synthy, techno, dirty south, bleeping sounds are ALL GOOD. Pads are good, drums can be good with editing. The arpegiator is really good too. Ive made good horns with some layering. Bass sounds are nice too. AGAIN I think the triton shines when you edit your patches and layer them sounds. All the bases in the preset combis are reallly nice. Actually i luv all the combis

BUt if i where to say where the triton lacks compared to the motif:
1.piano(matter of opinion but most will agree)
2.guitars
3.drums(some people like em, i like dirty drums.....these are cheese)
4.upright acoustic bass
5. B3 organs (i personally dont care-they sound good to me, but true organ players might not agree)

Every where else its equal or better depending on how you like to make sounds. Youll have no problem doing dirty south, R&B, or mainstream. It takes work to get it to sound dirty.

If you have SCSI installed on the triton and a SCSI hard disk you can load up piano samples...and anything else you can get your hands on...they have a good piano sample for triton at www.tritonhaven.com Sounds pretty good.

The triton can load AKAI sample disks as well. So it is possible to buy a string sample CD and then load in the samples of CD or store them on your Hard Disk.

I played with the Motif ES Rack in the store though and it sounded pretty good as well...much better for realistic sounds.

On the tritonhaven website there are a ton of pcgs.....basically differant programming you can load to give you new sounds. There are so many its ridiculous its like having a new keyboard. Plus you can buy this from pro-rec.com as well, giving you even more.

And the moss board can be added along with expansion cards. The moss board is pretty much the ms2000 inside the triton.
