glide wrote:Well ok a quick rundown: My studio is rather on a small side. I've allways tried to "downsize" it to just what I need, I use to have a bunch of stuff but now I get by with:

MPC4000 the boss & the brain, triggering mutes patterns step sequences and sounds along with some qlink at my disposal

TeeBee303 MK3 (hey made in your home town Alto) I do my Solo lead guitar on it :)

TR808 I love it but I doupt I'll be taking it out live, depends but in all honesty some clever programming on the 4k + my synths along with some exsternal analouge prossessing can virtually be the 808 even though the pA will not pump as much raw sonics,

Hi Glide,

I have the MPC 4000, TeeBee303 mk3 & TR 808 combo (among others) as well and I have to say that I LOVE it. Good to see another MPC'r with it :)

808 is great live, but as you said the MPC with creativity can replace it. Sometimes,
it just nice bringing it and leaving a blank pattern in step write mode, then as the concert goes on, if you want a clap or a snare, you can program it on the spot....

Though the new Jomox X-Base 999 that was just announced might take the 808's live spot and will just use the 808 in the Studio....

woofff you've got some very nice taste in grear there mate ;) .... Xbase999 seams to adress all the quircks I had with the orginal + it has analouge step sequencable filters now ... ufff ,, I'll be getting one as I've never been as blown away with electronik drums as when I had my airbase xbase and 808 running at the same time all with its own channels on the desk ...
X999 blam bloom hatz off Jomox, I was still hoaping for a built in monosyth (mbase) and non 909 toms .. can't wait to hear it,

its about time we r in '05 and we need a new 909...

 ... and cosign thisone! .... wow - y'all got some nice setup there mates. glide i hope you ll find your time for it ... really nice stuff there. and yeah .... often its best to use the 4k alone ... i have times i do exclusively things on 4k and others where i only work on virus. as for the rest of my setup - its rather small and i do not make much difference between home and live ... i bang the 4k and the kb =16 outs in my 22 channel mackie ... on midi out 2 there s my midiguitarsynth ... mostly not programed - only ready to jam ... but it has a dope footswitch and its more there becoz of that. ... on my mackie send there is a virus filter and vocoder, a marshall to dirty up things, and a lexicon to make it all nicer ... there s some others but they are used less - ... i just downgraded my behringer virtualizer to send 2 which is pre only! another fx i always use somewhere is a digital guitar fx unit ... at the end it all runs in 2 compressors at the subouts and outthere ... analogue filters were dope ... once i ll find some niceones i ll get some .... meanwhile in my setup i often call my wahwah the best filter (its not) - but its analog and old and does nice smooth stuff - almost as a moog ... not really .... but its really nice. yo and controlled by foot!

tweakin mixer: imo its almost implssible to keep track what s goin on here - even when havin a 4k - so there s been a time i wanted a digital mixer or a dps ... to keep track! ... fortunately those times are over now ... i dont think i could work on them. i would miss all the knobs and sends .... thats what i like doin. and besides some downsides my mackie is the best trackmute window .... or track route window .... i think certain things ya can do on the mixer are almost impossible to keep track off. anyways the mixer can give live feel imo and shure it were dope to have a dps for trackin - but nah - not for the way i like to work. ... so the setup is not really studio and i think its better suited for live stuff anyways ... and yo - live songs gonna get almost remixes or new songs - i hear ya.

... yo - guys - anyways and honestly with all the beaties you have named above gearlust still doesnt take over here .... i m too much in a 4k-kb high atm ...

deaf mute - the multi changes are the shyt! they work almost realtime. i just flipped some 1/16 at 130 bpm and how to say - at off beat no glitch at all - on beat only a small glitch .... is this what you wanted to know? ... however if somethin your ti s gonna make things better. ... but moving pgm chg slightly in stp edit helps. as for the fxs ... there are glitches but thats a minor issue for me ... man - i am so happy that finally those multi changes work ... i gave up on thisone years ago - often came back - never worked. ... this is gettin nice!

... as for the ti. honestly ... since it came out i m not visiting the access site anymore and i dont follow access forums either ... the ti looks tooooo tempting! so - if access takes there time off this is better for me! but anyways - ... congrats to yours - whichone you got? ... as for the delay - imo access knows what they are doin ... i been surprised that an access came out that soon after the c actually - but its all good. .... i used the b and use the kb now and they both do things great ... what the manual says they do. customer service is excellent ... only good things comin up when thinkin bout access ... the ti will be better or say newer ... esp. in the things you mentioned ... easier patch management, 16 fxs, more waveforms i guess, better mod matrix (assigns), more polyphony ... as ever ... enjoy it ... its a subtractive synth .... and a dopeone for sure! ... and imo the best thing of all the gear named in the previous 2 pages ... that gear gets better over time ... thats why i ll stick with my 4k and kb and bang them further ...

bangin beaz

and
 on thisone ... i hear ya. kb does em quite nicely too. however i still midi em in from my guitar ... real guitar solos need at least some of the real thing ... be it the guitar only ...

good to hear that, you just answered my fears and I'm real happy to hear that it's near glitchless. that's **** fantastic news.... I can hear you when you say it hurts looking at the access site....

see the white synth that's on the first page, the POLAR synth... that's the one I copped and honestly, I'm shaking just thinking about it... 5 months wait since I did the pre order...

the new jomox looks like it's gonna be a big hitter too... I'm tired of 909's and 808's, jomox got their shit together, especially if you into electro techno and fat drums... definately the way to go...

anyhow's peace and have a great day--

yo ... polar ... its a beauty. 5 month delay sound alot though ... as i said - i m not following access news so ... dunno ... i hear you when considering other gear... but 4k-polar sounds a great combo to me. dunno whatelse you use ... but the polar - even when talkin bout downsizing setup... imo thats a phantastic combo ... 16 outs, 64 poly 4k, 80?? on the polar... so dunno ... its up to yours ... in my case the polar were an upgrade/downsize ... my kb is bigger and does less ... as ever ... multis flip and my kb is gettin better and better ... i ll surely keep it. thanx again and have a good choice ...

i'm i'm downsizing in terms of my live set which i am preparing, but i keep adding modules to my studio cause i like to have varied sound scapes... I am sure that mpc 4000, nord modular and Virus access ti Polar is gonna be **** hot on stage.... I do most of my kick sounds with the modular, (just used to it) but i probably end up sampling the kicks and flip them from the mpc... can't wait to receive the Polar... and I second Lord with the 24/96 808 drums... there's not that many 24/96 quality 808's out there.. see y'all-

nice stuff there deafmute ... let us know when the polar arives ...

yo - I second (third ??) Lord with the 24/96 808 drums ... i d even say we should start talkin about some hollow sun at 24 bit ...

i could contribute with some waveforms from the kb ... got some other synths here which are still to sample ... yo ... just an idea ... my samples were for free ... we payed enough for the 4k imo ...

peace

I got some of tutors sounds and they real tight but cause I'm workin with dance music and electro, i sometimes feel that they more hip hop based....

i got alot of shyte i can put together.... if any u guys got slsk there's also a mpc samples/pgms page where you can share your own creations... ...

yo,

you 808 owner ought to post up som 24/96 drum samples. I would pay a few dollars for a wide selection.

Hello,

this is an excellent post!! you mentioned that you could get the SYSEX to work with the Motif and MPC 4000. I was wondering where in the manual, or how to do the dump to from the motif to the 4000? I remember one member on one of the borads here gave a step by step for the MPC 2000xl and the Proteus 2000. And his direction worked to the point. Kind of new to the 4000 thousand and motif combination. Just need some direction.

Thank YOU!!!

trupro wrote:Sysex can either be really tough or really straitfoward, depending on the synth you have. What a sysex does is dump ALL the settings from a given synth or module into a sequencer. Later, you can play the dump back into the synth or module, and the settings will be restored. NOTE: BEFORE YOU DO THIS make SURE that you have all your sounds in the module saved. If you F this one up, you will be resetting your synth, and could lose all your parameter settings in your synth. The sysex does not change wave data or samples in your synthesizer, rather, it resets parameters. So, If I make a beat on the MPC, sequencing internal drums and samples, along with MIDI tracks that sequence a Triton, I'll dump sysex FROM the triton to the MPC on an empty sequence. However, if I make a new beat after that with new EDITED sounds from the Triton and didn't dump a sysex, I'm in trouble. When I load up an earlier track, and dump it's sysex BACK to the Triton, it will reset the synth to the state it was in when I made that track. Whatever new sounds I made parameters for in the Triton will be reset. If they weren't there when I did the earlier sysex, they'll be gone. So, once you start doing sysex dumps, do them all the time, for every track you make. You need to find the sysex dump screen in your synth. Usually they are located in 'Global' or 'MIDI' parameter sections of most modules. I have had terrible luck with dumps from the Yamaha QY-70, and the Roland Fantom. But, it was a snap with the Motif and Proteus 2000. Here's how: Set up a new sequence on the MPC, making sure the loop is set to OFF. Turn the tempo down really slow, about 40 BPMs. Usually the dump occurrs on MIDI channel 1. But, you can change the Tx, or Transmit channel, in the synth before you dump. Channel 1 is fine. Set up a channel in the MPC for track 1 in the new sequence. Hit play/start+Record on your MPC, and after the first beat, execute the dump from the synth. In most, there will be a soft button that says "dump" or "execute". It may take a minute or two, it may take a couple of seconds; it varies. Just keep an eye on the synth and it should give a message like "dump Complete" or something. Then just hit stop on the MPC. In the same section as the Tx Dump, there should be a command in any synth for the Rx Dump, or Recieve Dump. Many don't have a special screen; you just play that sequence with the sysex data on it back into the synth or module when you have the main screen showing on the synth. This string of SYStem EXclusive messages should reset the parameters as they were when you made that particular track. The sysex data gets saved in the MPC as normal when you save your sequences. When used properly, you'll always have the right sounds 'saved' with the right beat. Many folks use this method and don't save ANYTHING in thier synth, but you have to play around and test it out. I would save to floppy, Flash ROM, or Computer, depending on what module you have, then try out this method.
