Finally got my 60 today - problem??

Ok, it's finally here blah blah blah. Damn does it look nice. I might post a pic of it just to show off how clean it is

Anyway - the problem. When I'm sampling:

I have the gain switch on the back to LOW. Record level is at 99. I have a nice sound coming from the turntable.

When I play it back the volume is extremely low and distorted. If I turn the gain to MED or HIGH I get a louder, but really really really distorted sound.

I remember reading some posts here before and coming across someone else who had the problem but now I can't find that thread for the life of me.

Any solution?

Also, I tried assigning it to one of the 8 outs and even with the volume on the out up all the way the sound is lower than the main outs.

Something not connected right inside?

OK, is your turntable hooked up to a mixer or preamp? or does it have a line out? You can't just use the high setting and hook it up raw, the TT signal needs the special preamp to sound clean.

Also, the rec gain at 99 is bad!!!! set it to medium, then make sure the sample gain isn't clipping, or clipping mush, or it will distort, which can be nice too.

the general output of the 60 is somewhat low, that's what mixers are for

but I just though that maybe the mix ot knob on the back might boost the main outputs more, since it loops back to the echo returns when no plugs are connected.

the high setting of the switch at the back is for mic's, back when people would sample their drum kits by plugging a mic into the back of the 60, I couldn't get a clean signal when I had it on high with a line input because line doesn't need that kind of amplification.

So it's supposed to be pretty low? It seems too low to me.

All I have now is a dj mixer. I guess I need a good mixer and monitors.

Not necessarily, the out put of the 60 is lower than +4 dB, but it isn't weak, get your sampling levels right, watch them !!!!!'s

The outputs on the 60 are -3dBv on the main outs, 0dBv on the individual outs. I'm not up on my dB's, so if someone knows what dBv is, in case it's not regular dB we all know and love, speak on it.

then again, maybe the output amp is busted?

Is there a way to know for sure?

Maybe I'm too used to the sound of the XL?

not sure, I guess it would be a difference cuz the XL has a hotter output.

It is definitly lower than the XL, but how low are we talking?

It's not so bad now that I think about it. I was just making a beat and turned the volume on my stereo to where I usually have it when I use my XL. I think I'm used to the XL. I just wasn't expecting it lower.

Plus, I wasn't 100% sure what I was doing at first. I'm now comfortable sampling and editing sounds.

Use the mixer in the 60 you can control volumes really well on the 60, and if you hook up an effects unit to the echo send returns, you can control how much of each pad goes out the mix out to the unit, per pad (indi outs bar levels control send level) then in the main out mixer you can mess with the output of the dry signal.

probably a lot like the 2k with internal fx card.
