Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By LSA100X Thu May 29, 2003 12:00 pm
I have one of the older 2000xl's that originally came with a floppy drive. I bought the conversion kit and added a 250MB internal zip with no problem. My production partner just bought one of the new xl's with the 100mb zip. He ordered a new interrnal 250MB drive but everytime i install it I get a memory error. My question is are there any known issues with internal 250mb zip drives and the new xl's or am I just getting bad drives?. I have already returned one and the same thing happened with the new one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

IT seems that there are tons of references to this new OS and need for it when installing a 250 Zip in a lot of cases, but I cannot find out how to install the actual OS? The Akai site says it has it but I cant find it. This site lists a need for installing OS in Zip Drive tutorial but doesnt tell how to install it. I am wondering if this probably easy process can be explained. For instance, I have v1.14 donwloaded but how to load it into the MPC so it will never forget it? Any help is appreciated...Peace, BsK

You load the OS file the same way you load a sound file..
I should be XXXXXXXX.BIN

Make sure you have nothing else
loaded cause it will erase EVERYTHING!!

I tried it ... loaded 1.14 through SCSI...it went through but still would not detect my zip 250. I am probably gonna have to reopen the **** up and see if it is all hooked up right which I am sure that it is, then I dont know what to do if that is the case. I guess try to go back to the 100, but sux since I have the 250 and all of these blank 250 discs. Any other advice is welcome. Peace, BsK

Does anyone know which Internal 250MB Zip drives are compatible with the MPC2000XL? Thanks

AFAIK, only Iomega make zip drives.

This 250MB problem seems to affect newer drives - I have two IDE 250MB zip drives which both work perfectly in my MPC, one was actually taken out of my old Roland VS840EX. I think 100MB drives are the safest bet (which is why Akai do not have a zip250 MPC). The 1.14c is supposed to fix the 250MB issue, but it doesn't seem to work all the time.

Try reloading v1.14 with the internal drive, I don't know whether you have floppy or ZIP internal but try that.. I actually had a floppy when I first bought my 2kxl. I loaded 114 then swapped to internal 250zip and I had no problems.

Okay, I put the 100 back in and now it will not get recognized. All connections seem right...it accepts and ejects disks and lights up when doing so. Re-loaded 1.14 and still no luck. This XLSE originally had a floppy, then upgraded to zip 100. I tried to pull that out to put in a 250 and now I cant even get the 100 to work. Any ideas in terms of what might be going wrong here? Baffling to me. Peace, BsK

Before ever messing with any ZIP, I originally loaded 114 with a floppy drive then went to 250zip with no problem. I don't know what your problem could be. Do you have the floppy drive still?

yeah, I have the floppy still.

Sweet...after a long day and some trepidation...the problem has been solved...turns out it was something more minor than expected...a connection became loose from my constant in and out with the drives...all seems good to go....thanks for all of your help!!!
