Take it slow, get your 60, and the ASR 10 and you should be busy for a while. Then have a look at what else you need. The 60's sequencer is good enough, especially with the upgrade.

MPC 3000
S950
ASR-10

Then call it a night :).

The ASR10 and the any MPC is a powerhouse combo.

You REALLY won't need a asr x, sp, don't fall into the hype cause it's money wasted looking at what you already got that is.
It depends on the size of your pockets and how you want to work, what limited technology you are willing to put up with ie, mpc60/sp1200 small ram but big sound, ie, 2kxl's clean sound but not 12 bit.

S950 would be a good addition.

Don't get a 2k classic, IF you go 2k get the XL.
IF you plan on transferring samples from pc to MPC
then get the 4k (it's more complete than any other MPC anyway)

ASR10 filters can do the same things as the mfc42, don't get a mfc42.

I have to say that if I were you I would get an MPC with 4 MIDI outs, which means, 60, 3000, 4000.

Looking at the setup you want or will have, getting a ASR-10 and an s950 (or some other rack) will kill all the independent midi connections on the 2000(xl). Of course you can chain via midi thru's, but why should you have to :)?

or get a thru box, but yeah, depending on what you are going for, I think lamp's advice is good.

Oh man do you have a lot of reading to do.

No mate sorry I have to correct you, Yes they can do the same thing but
as great as the ASR filters sound (and yhea they do sound good) they still can't sound as good as the analouge MFC,
the MFC is like 230 bucks well worth it,..
even if it's not being used you can still run things through it just for the warmth of the unit itself... its an exelent value

if anything just cop a 1k = if you do all the VST/Timestretch/Recycling on your pc that is... +S900 (if you truly can't get by without 12bit

If the MFC impressed you a real filter would give you a cardiac.
The MFC is a filter but far from a good analog filter.
What you are hearing is an increase in the gain stage not analog character.
When you run something through some classic analog circuitry you'll hear the difference.
Still if you like it that's cool.

doomdada,
if you get the 60 and asr-10 combo you will be surprised at the capability.

The MFC is not a bad filter, When I tested it I had no audio source so I just messed with self oscillation and the modulation and it sounded really good, compared to other filters it may not stack up, but it will kill most digital filters.

similar comment can be said about the filterfactory (what a misnomer, it can't even make one more filter, some factory!)

Name a better Midi controllable Analog Filter???

Filter factory is close, sherman filterbank is really popular.

MIDI Control for sound character? Not sure that's a trade I would make.

Philly Stress,
what Filter are you currently using?
I know it's been at least 6 months since I used any of my Electrix stuff (Filter or MoFX) and will probably never get the MFC back.
Guess I'll let him give me $150 and call it a day, since he's been using it for like a year now.

It's kinda sad, I was hoping that the market value would go up and I would dump them, but with Electrix being back in business that probably won't happen now.

EL good call the Electrix and MFC are real close in where the sit. (Akai definitely used the Electrix to gauge their design).
You should have tried to run some audio through the MFC may have given you a clearer view on the filters sound.

IMHO, the Electrix and the MFC are more like DJ filters. They are quick and pretty straight forward, but nothing really special about their sound.
They both seem more digital than analog. Reminds me of the sound of the MKS-50, it sounds kinda analog, kinda digital.

The Sherman is more similar to a synth with input path than just a filter.
Both the Electrix and MFC lack the aggression that you expect.
The original Sherman, I never owned the the Sherman II can get pretty extreme pretty quick.

If someone likes a filter don't let me stop you from using it, what makes a filter more functional to me might be what makes it non-functional to the next man.
Still $219 new and blue is pretty cheap for the MFC.

Back to doomdada's situation, he was building a setup all at once instead of letting it flow and evolve.
Getting any filter at that point and stage could prevent him from making the right choice as well maybe not learning something about a piece of gear.
Are the filters on the ASR analog sounding? No, but they are somewhat inaccurate so they add some character.
They wouldn't replace a stand alone but would give a point of reference for when you start checking out filters.

You said 60 and ASR with something for 16-bit drums, for the time being just sample drums into the ASR and program from the MPC.

Well I will agree that the MFC isn't as smoth or full as a 1grand mutator (but there really isn't anything to the mutator exept the sound although its vey cool to be able to trigger the cutoff via the keyboard span (makes for great step seqcuencing but it really is just a LP w lfo (but what a smoth LP it is) and nothing can really touch the sherman it really is the true meaning of a filter bank can utterly destroy sound,, but the MFC has way better, 100%in fact midi, analouge hi lo eq, dist and flange, 1 mono + sterio ins, memories (there's a sysex dump button on front pannel) lfo or envelope modulation, 6 filter types and the sound is Yes a very "wet roland sound" which personally I like, I have a TeeBee with an input and that fillter isn't nearly as musical, its good for filtering bass and sweeping drumloops though it but its like it needs glasses for freq over 900hz, its limeted yet cool analouge sounds spine from it specially with reso up, the analouge Filters in my uWave have a dark deep charghter (my fav), but a MFC for 219$ and it makes you sound like Daft Punk... :) ..can't be beat

ok a bit more OT: I think your getting good advice here Doomdada, hold off on the analouge filter, as like Lampdog said and ntAlec pointed out the ASR filters surff the same nature as the MFC, once you've got the hang of the filter thang and if you still think you'll need an analouge filter go for it, the MFC is a fantastik buy, but the Sherman would be recomended if you truly wana warp

my vote is still for 1k+ s900 if you work with PC/VST
