i use it to drive all my midi gear, but you'd be stupid to ignore its drum/sampling capabilities...

I know alot of people don't like the MPC's sampling function, but I like it and find it very easy to use, but than again I've been using my SP 1200 to sample for the past 14 years so that maybe why..

I mainly sample.I love how easy it is to chop and sequence on the mpc.

Things is that I really like my S1000 (32Mo/SCSI/ Digital & Optical I/O allow yo to 48Khz)... I have tones of 1 shut drumz bank... Also one thing is all others samplrz read S1K files 
... On an other hand if I sample open fills drm breaks off of wax, I will rec to MP or SP, depend of the prod...
In fact it's all about what sound/source I'm sampling, the track I'm producing & the gear(s) I'm using to feet it!

I rarely sample in my 2kxl.
I rarely midi my 2kxl.
Usually, transfer samples from Pc
and work my songs stand alone 2kxl.
