I respect that but I need to ask a question. What is the point of this thread? I know what's works for me and I know how to get the sound I'm looking for. So I don't want to step on any toes cause of something I have no control over

To get to now our machines better, to know what's going on, and why if we can figure it out. You are still being defensive "I don't try to get into my machines.." well that's you, you can wear your ignorance as a badge of pride of you like, but some of us are curious and we like talking about what might cause those differences, or even just confirming that the differences are there.

Perhaps you'd prefer a discussion on what song Kanye sampled in his last single? We got them treads here too, me, I like learning about these machines, it helps me use them better.

Ntalec, I agree with you on every point except that Roger Linn gets more credit than he deserves. Have you ever seen the Linn Midi Studio? Looks just like the 60, prototype before his work with akai. I think it is a case where akai provided the man power and funding to develop the technology, and Roger Linn provided the design concept. he even modded the sampling engine akai provided on the 60. I was actually just thinking about that, there is a reason Linn gets so much of the credit, and I think it is a substantial one.

El. I don't mean he shouldn't get credit I mean people forget how much Akai put into it.
Having actually talked to Roger about 8 years ago I would never be that disrespectful.
There is no ego, even with the throne people have given him.
They both deserve credit for their contributions to the project.
Much respect to both.

The Studio is still a modification on the 9000 or evolution if you prefer.
The mods to the sampling engine were more because Akai didn't want to give full access to their proprietory systems.
Think about if Akai would have kept the variable rates like on the s-950, the 60 wouldn't have been a true terror.
You have the Emax so you know what I mean about the variable rates.

young_keyz,
the purpose of the thread was that spen came to the 60/3000 forum to ask 60/3000 users if there is a technical reason for the 3000 banging more than the xl.
That's all.
Not do I like a 3000 more than a xl or can I make a xl sound like a 3000.
No conspiracy.

After I made about 2000 different drum kits for the mpc60, I noticed they all kinda sounded the same. Maybe like about 20 diffferent kits all together.

now, i have never owned a 3000, by the time I had the money, I found a really good deal on the 4000.

I used the same sounds to make 2000 different kits for the 4000. They alll have their own dynamics, and nuances.

now alll that should go without saying.

the 2000 was designed, for the same reaso n they designed the 1000. to be a CHEAPER alternative to the pro level machine. Thusly with cheaper components, leading to a cheaper price.

Every beat machine sounds different. There are thousands of people using every type of mpc. The chance of most of these people using the same sounds to make beats that sound exactly like each other is slim to none.

eminem's beats don't sound like Kanye's
ayatolla's beats don't sound like primo's
timbaland's beats dont sound like RZA's
souls of mischief don't sond like the alchemist

I hope you aren't trying to say that's what a 60 cost.
The 60 was $3,300.

The 60 was 5Gs when it dropped. The 3000 was 3Gs when it dropped. And the cost has been dropping incrementally until the 4000 was released...... this may account 4 the loss in quality. Uno

Nah, it never was that high.
I was around then.
The 60 was about $375 more than the SP.

yeah akai did make it all possible, but the spearhead of the project was the inventor of the digital drum machine, of course a lot of people helped, a spearhead is no good without the staff.

So what are you saying about the variable sample rates? I believe they had the 900 engine, not the 950 engine. If they just put a 900 in there it would be way too dope, filters, varible sampling rates. oh man.

Not sure what you mean Lord T, I have a bunch of kits, none of them sound the same, if you mean the 12 bit quality, well yeah, but that's a feature in my book, the drums fit together more when all are 12 bit, more so on the SP with the lower sampling rates.

I was not knocing the 60 at all, I love the sound. While alot of my kits sounded different. They were similar enough for me not to feel like chopping up 200 addition drumloops. I figured I had a good enough sound base. and did not want to do the rest of the work.

several years ago i stated making kits from every drum break in my collection. So as to not have to keep searching, and chopping drum loops.

Damn dude, every break in your collection? Damn.

And no need to be so agreeable, you are after all, a blade man ;)

The 950 was just the 900 with the added features.
Still it would have made the 60 crazy.
At least you can strap a filter to the send or setup a output 1/2 on the individual outs.

By elmacaco Wed Apr 06, 2005 6:41 am
how about strapping indi outs 1,2,3,4,5,6 with analog filters ;)

the xl and the 3000 have the same timing, the same a/d d/a converters and the same linedrivers

source: an akai technician from the german mpc forum
