dig or buy

Do most of you guys sample your drum sounds from songs and other analog equipment or buy your drum samples from other people. Just curious, I am new to the 2000XL. I used to have a MPC 60.

I've never once bought a sample...theres a lotta sounds to be sampled that you can find with even just a mic and some pans or sumpthin...best samples to me come from how creative the samplie can get.

vinyl 99% of the time. never bought a sample, though.

Digg cause its the best way to achive result in short time ,

most do buy but when time is lacking but its more effective to digg

all right ..when it comes too drums it might be faster to buy a sample cd

but when it comes to loops and samples "I say" digg Wax !

I download everything from newsservers to kazaa.

my secret if you heard a good jazz/blues/rock song and you liked the bass. Google to the bassguitarist and find his name. Then you go to kazaa and search on his name...you'll result in awesome solo thangs.

an exception is bass drums, its hard to find good bass drums that do not sound too funky..

Dig 90% of the time. Internet 5% and another 5% is friends bringing me sounds and samples they sound just like my style..

so many people are buying... its a shame

for me i like the hunt of digging. its a passionate thing and i know you all can appreciate that too. its quite a cultural thing too, which i also enjoy. going crate digging with some friends once a month is good time off as we work pretty full on.

plus the joy of digging up THAT sound of THAT break is just golden.

i can dig how people would buy a few sample packs to fatten out their sound arsenal but i dont get kids who do nothing but buy or download. that kinda defeats the purpose of having a sampler like the MPC.

you might as well just use Acid Pro and their default sample bank or something.

as for me, i sample everything and anything. my studio has everything connecting to the patchbay, from tv, radio, vcr, dvd, turntables etc

oh and just to be clear, i do some work during every week as a sound designer for a company that does radio ads, tv ads and multimedia, so i record/sample for that also. its nice to get some financial reward for my passion, but more respect to the REAL diggers out there, the breaks specialists and those who are keeping old culture alive....

get you a couple of sound modules and two or three good CD roms and start making your own grooves PLAYA

I use like maybe 30% samples from several cd-roms and 70% junk from everywhere else.. Triton classic as a sound module sometimes.. I also download many PCG's for my triton to explore different sounds. I either sample them or do the sound module thing with my MPC and it all works. out..

I started on samples moved to modules and now I intergrate the two for my best results... modules can quickly give you a mainstream sound (what I was after)....but the samples personalizes your stuff... for my 808 and synth type drums i get them off the net... i don't sample vinyl (just learning to use them).... i use to use kazaa and chop up the mp3's and save'em as waves with cool edit... but no more kazaa... really sad how else am i going to get the sh** they don't make anymore....dang

what do you use to mix down your stuff

Just to hear the modules and mpc mixed together I use a eurorack mk 602A... When I want to sample myself I drop a rough mix into cubase or sonar 2.0 on a track... record me on another and then chop it up with a wav editor... sometimes I do this to my female vocals to give it a more sampled sound.

As far as recording and mixing I use a vs1880... and I just purchased a digi 001 with protools used. I will also be using sonar cause it is latency free on my system.... I havn't tried the protools yet.
