MPC 60, MAC OSX, MPC pgm maker and floppies

Hello,
I read this thread and tried top follow the steps this evening and I could not get my powerbook to recognize the floppy (MPC60 fomat) at all. i.e. no floppy icon ever appeared on the desktop.

here is the thread:
I use mpcpgm maker in OSX with my MPC60 with Roger Linn 3.10e upgrade. I first format the floppy in the MPC60 then insert it into my floppy frive connected to my Mac. OSX sees the disk as PC formatted disk which is fine. I open the program mpcpgm maker and save my pgm to the floppy, load the floppy into the MPC60, load the programs.........and fun!

Any other ideas on what I can try? I would hat to not be able to use my mac in conjunction w/ the 60. (having to resample all my sounds intot he 60 etc..)

I just started to mess with the OSX version of MPCPGM Maker. I'm using it with a MPC3000, a Zip disk and a G4/400. I don't generally use floppies to transfer with. There is definitely something different happening with the disk handling. I can't explain it, but I'll get a better idea in a few days. Seems like the computer can't read my MPC formatted Zips. However, it can read the MS-DOS formatted ones.

Also, there are additional files written to the disk or at least visible on the disk in OSX. When I load up programs, I also get a message from the MPC stating that the disk is full. However, if I load the individual samples and then load the program, it loads fine. I'll do some more experiments. I'm also talking with Seishu trying to explain my problems or lack of understanding.

Try a few experiments yourself. Try some MS-DOS formatted disks and run them. Don't reformat them in the sampler. Just try them and see what happens. If it works, that may be the ticket. Also make sure that you don't safe the samples to your disk still inside of the folder. You have to dump the folder and save the samples and programs straight to the disk.

Disk full or memory full?

I probably know what the problem is. I try to remember to email Seishu (I helped him with the MPC3000 part the program since he does not own one).

Been doing some forum hopping and it appears as if there are some consistent problems between OSX and DOS disks. OSX appears to place invisible files within the DOS disk that makes reading it problematic on the DOS side. But that may not be the total problem.

I read about the latest version of Iomega's Zip tools as a solution. It definitely allowed me to see and access some of the disks which had been previously unreadable. I've got copies of the text, if you wanna read through. Email me for the excitement.


I'll do more reading and contact Seishu too.
