^^^ this is what just blaze was saying but everybody turned it into something else

Someone said to agree with the statement, well shyt, no one can dispute that, the pros don't even use 1 mil in equipment to make their beats. What, the price of an MPC is So much more expensive than Fruity loops that it might as well be 'millions' ?

Saying hardware costs a million dollars while software is cheap is just as BS as saying software is cheating.

that's extreme exageration.

Also, I bet that laptop was hooked up to the SSL real quick.

By AXE26 Sat Apr 09, 2005 5:43 am
yo u dudes are incredible your taking the mans words into another world. simple and plain u dont need a bunch of equipment to make beats u can use a simple affordable program to handle all of this as well. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
SIMPLIFIED!!!!

Of course, I know that, but you know, I got a thing with hype, we know better but some cat's might not, and you know how all these producers get out their diamonds and their expensive cars, now they're using the equipment as some sort of status piece. The fact is, a bedroom set up is not that far away from a pro set up (beatmaking wise, the SSL's in the studio can be rented, just like Ice!!)

A computer and some software can be had for about a grand, and MPC between 500 and 2000, (the 4000 is no fairlight CMI) Roland, Emu Sound Modules, a Motif, we got lots of cats that have set ups like that in their homes. These guys just have more stuff around, that they may not even need , or use, but you really don't need a lot to make great hip hop, that's one of the great things about it. When did that become a secret?

" ive studyed computers for 4 years now and iam kinda sik of them. therefore i dont want it 2 b my main tool. the idea of working 50 buttons and knobbs with just a mouse just dosent do it for me."

I completely agree. I can't see myself hitting the space bar to activate a kick, or using the mouse to adjust a level either. In fact, I have NEVER used a computer for anything more than the internet and to look at a few pair of tits, but I just get tired of the people that knock, or praise a certain piece of hardware/software just because everyone else does. FL got it's haters, no doubt, but how many of them haters are hating simply because they own a different piece of equipment? like I said, I 've never used a computer for music, and don't want to. But if I had to (and didn't want to spend a lot of money) I would buy FL because I know it can make some good ish.

yeah, cxontrol surfaces haven't made it too far, I know a few people who use their controllers and knobs on the keyboards, but mostly for tweaking, values tend to be mouse or QWERTY keyboard, most of the people I know with controllers tend not to use them much, actually, the more strictly computer they are, the less they use them!! I think the people who use the computer a lot really don't mind using the mouse for everything, they like it, so even with a control surface, they are so comfortable with the mouse that it isn't such a big deal.

The guys I know with harware and computer set ups gravitate toward both, but I think it's the tactile control that keeps them turning back to their hardware more often. None of them seem to want to sell the control surfaces though.

I actually started on Software, I used Fruity 2.0 for 2 years with some other gear, sequencing samples of that gear.I had a keyboard that had a bunch of knobs on it and I hooked it up with CC's to fruity a few times, controlling the synth was fun, but I didn't use it much.

the more I used it the more I wanted to try hardware to get it in 3D,Software is just an image, and you need to use your eyes for everything, on hardware you can get to the point of not needing to look to change things.

It's kinda interesting.

i hear tht elmac. i used cubase for like 3 years, got one of those evolution keyboards with knobs, assigned a few via CC. but just wasnt feeling it, my mixes were all over the place, i damaged my hearing, yes you heard correct i damaged them, severely, WHY???? because i personally cant balance my eyes with my ears, hence pulling a fader with a mouse, even with control surfaces i look more on what i am doing , instead of really listening to what i am suppose to be doing, so off the bat, software is no no for me. i have tried fruity, and to be honest it is not bad, but it was a sound, like may other apps, and its generic, just like pro tools, and also, the music today all sounds the same, reason as well, very crab in barrel.

it doesnt sound bad, but its not for me,

sure as well as hardware, they have a "sound" that "I" prefer, and would rather go with tht, sp's got a sound, mp's got a sound, emu has a sound, etc. and they are hands on, i can literally turn on my mp and load up, with out even looking. and the biggest thing for me is

I FEEL LIKE THERE IS MORE OF ME IN THE MUSIC, AND SO I FEEL SATIFISED, LIKE WHEN I GO IN THE GARDEN AND TEND TO GANJA IN THE FIELDS. WITH BASIC TOOLS, LIKE A FORK, INSTEAD OF SOME COPLEX SHIZ LIKE HYDROPONICS.

also in all honesty, ,you sure get a whole more respect, when you rock hardware. especially when you know how to rock IT.

flashing lights, mp's, s950's through big boards do it for me.

you dont have to. i trigger drums with pads, trigger notes and samples with keys on my midi keyboard, do filter sweeps, levels, automation with knobs, etc, all while working with software (and dont forget, good interface/soundcard = virtually no latency). you guys dont look at all the possibilities. no one said if you use software you are forced into qwerty keyboards and a mouse.

FL Studio is a full-featured sequencer perfectly suited for creation of complex songs and realistic drum loops, with 32 bit internal mixing and advanced MIDI support. The resulting song or loop can be exported to a WAV/MP3 file and all MIDI events can be exported to a standard MIDI file.

Details for FLSTUDIO FRUITYLOOPS EDITION

FL Studio can play any sample file (wav), generator (FL Studio soft- synth), VSTi & DXi) or midi instrument you feed it.

FL Studio is a pattern based sequencer, which means you create your songs in pieces (patterns) using the Step Sequencer and the Piano Roll view and then weld those pieces together using the Playlist window (the Playlist also supports full-featured audio tracks with hardrrive streaming). Then you can add a wide range of effects to your instruments (reverb, phaser, flanger etc.) and route the resulting mixer tracks in any way you like to create complex mixing chains with ease.

Main Features:
-Internal 32 bit floating point mixing, up to 96kHz stereo.
-Supports DirectSound and ASIO enabled sound cards for audio output.
-Ability to function as a VSTi, DXi and a ReWire client.
-Ability to host ReWire clients itself.
-Realtime linear interpolation & sophisticated interpolation algorithms at rendering time.
-Open architecture allowing third-party instruments (enhanced proprietary FL instruments standard, VSTi and DXi2) and effects (enhanced proprietary FL effects standard, VST, VST2 and DirectX).
-A full set of high-precision mastering and special effects filters: reverb, compressor, procedural equalizer, distortion, phaser, flanger, bass boost, delay line and other.
-Advanced sequencing methods allowing quick entering of realistic drum loops (step sequencing grid) and composing complex instrumentals (advanced piano roll, arpeggiator, keyboard tracking, real-time gate).
-Unique note properties morphing ability (pitch, cutoff, resonance, panning).
-Advanced mixer: 68 mixer tracks (64 insert and 4 send tracks) supporting up to 8 filters each; mixer tracks rerouting for creating of complex mixer chains; track recording with ASIO input support (for recording MIDI, vocals etc.); integrated procedural equalizer, volume and panning for each mixer track.
-Integrated instruments: Sampler, TS404 (the popular bassline engine), 3xOSC (subsynth), Plucked! (plucked strings), MIDI Out, DX10 (FM synth), Scratcher (turntable emulator), WaveTraveller (wave bend synth), Wasp (demo), SimSynth Live (demo), and more.
-Advanced playlist & full-featured audio tracks.
-Live recording of control movements & integrated automation events editor.
-Easy MIDI remote controlling of most parameters (VST plugins supported as well).
-Procedural control over parameters by using special controller plugins.
-Click removal & volume ramping to avoid pops.
-Imports *.WAV, *.SYN (SimSynth 1 & 2), *.DS (DrumSynth) files, with effects applied.
-Imports MIDI sequences and controller events.
-Exports audio to 16Bit or 32Bit *.WAV file, *.MP3.
-Can export MIDI notes & controller events to a standard MIDI file.

The step sequencer is the heart of FL Studio. Here you decide which channels will generate which sounds.

Step sequencer
Simply clicking some dots allows you to trigger sampler channels, control one of the generators that come with Fruityloops or make any existing VST2.0 or DXi instrument plugin scream.

The Step Sequencer is the main part of FL Studio's interface. It contains a button for each channel in your song, from which you can call its Channels Settings, Piano Roll etc. It also contains a pattern grid, where you can create drum loops and simple melodies.

Channel Filtering
Having too much channels can make the work in the Step Sequencer slow and tedious. To optimize your workflow and project structure, you can combine several channels in a group and set the Step Sequencer to display only specific group of channels (for example percussion group or lead synth group).

The Pianoroll allows you to compose the most incredible melodies using chords, note lengths, color coded slides, etc.

A pianoroll can have any length you want. You are not restricted to the length of the other patterns in your composition.

All Panning, Velocity, Cuttoff, Resonance, and other parameters can be controlled on a note by note basis and using 'slides' you can make your notes slide from the one to the other.

Midi keyboard users can play directly from their keyboards. Others can either import a midi file or use the PC keyboard to compose the notes.

The Playlist is the director of your composition.

Here you tell FL Studio which patterns, audioclips or automation clips you want to play when and for how long your want them to repeat.

As you can trigger a pattern at any point in the song the FL Studio playlist allows mutiple timesignatures.

Want to add voices, guitar parts or recorded synths ? Just drag any wav file to the playlist and position it where you want to have it played back.

Using the Time Markers you can label specific part of your song and select all the patterns in it.

The FL Studio mixer is versatile :
- 64 Tracks
- 4 Send tracks
- Individual VU meters & sliders
- Full FX re-routing
- ASIO in recording
- Bounce to disk option

Each Track has :
- 8 FX channels
- 3-band parametric equaliser
- stereo separator
- VU meter with peaks
- Volume, pan & stereo separation

FL Studio comes bundled with a whole range of generators (instruments) :
- 3x OSC
- BeepMap
- BooBass
- Buzz Generator Adapter
- Dashboard
- FL Slayer
- FL Keys
- FPC
- Keyboard controller
- Fruit Kick
- Fruity Granulizer
- Fruity Slicer
- Fruity Vibrator
- WaveTraveller
- Fruity Wrapper
- MIDI Out
- Plucked!

Of course you can plug in any available VST or DX instrument as well.

FPC (FL Pad Controller) is a software plugin similar to the hardware Akai MPC & MPD16 unit, coded & optimized for the FL Studio platform.

FPC is a self-contained drum machine which makes it easy to create, edit and swap drumkits on the fly to tune the sound of the drumloops in your project. FPC supports 16 multi-layered patches per drumkit bank.

Collab allows two or more users to chat & exchange FL Studio projects. Users can create their own groups, invite users to join them and work on a project together.

Dashboard allows you to create software interfaces to your external MIDI hardware, such as keyboards, mixers, samplers etc. You can even use the integrated automation system to record the changes as your song progresses.

You can also set up interfaces that act as internal controllers.

Dashboard includes several pre-made panels (presets) for popular MIDI devices you can use directly in your projects. You can customize the existing panels for your own use or create new ones from scratch. This way you can adapt Dashboard for any MIDI device you own without using plugins dedicated to a specific hardware.

Included FX (effects) :
- Fruity Flangus
- Buzz Effect Adapter
- Fruity 7 Band EQ
- Fruity Balance
- Fruity Bass Boost
- Fruity Blood Overdrive
- Fruity Center
- Fruity Chorus
- Fruity Compressor
- Fruity Delay
- Fruity Delay 2
- Fruity Fast Dist
- Fruity Fast LP
- Fruity Filter
- Fruity Flanger
- Fruity Free Filter
- Fruity Mute
- Fruity PanOMatic
- Fruity Parametric EQ
- Fruity Phase Inverter
- Fruity Phaser
- Fruity Reverb
- Fruity Send
- Fruity Soft Clipper
- Fruity Stereo Enhancer
-Fruity Vocoder
- Fruity Waveshaper
- Fruity Wrapper

Some FX in FL Studio don't produce or use sound channels but are very useful when added to the FX rack

Truely unique are the internal controllers in FL Studio.

The Peak Controller allows can modify any wheel, knob or switch by feeding it a sound or beat.

The available internal controllers are:
- Formula Controller
- Peak Controller
- X-Y Controller
- Dashboard

FL Studio hosts:
- VST Effects & VSTi Instruments
- ReWire clients
- DX Effects & DXi Instruments
- Buzz Effects & Instruments

If you want to use your existing sequencer, just plug FL Studio in any host you can find. It works as a multi-out client :
- VSTi client (Cubase, Logic, etc.)
- ReWire client (Sonar, Live, etc.)
- DXi client (Sonar, etc.)

"also in all honesty, ,you sure get a whole more respect, when you rock hardware."

you get respect from making good music. Nowadays, you can save a pro-tools session and send it over the internet to an engineer thousands of miles away. He's not going to know if you used hardware or not, and the people that are dancing/enjoying the music don't care either.

By elmacaco Sat Apr 09, 2005 9:21 pm
The respect thing is cool, but I don't think it's a reason to get hardware, but if someone is paying to use your studio and all they see is a computer and a mic, they may not feel to happy about forking over the cash.

FL will only sound as good as the samples you dig for and put in it (**** presets), in addition to only sounding as well as your soundcard/interface allows it too. I hope you had a decent card (not soundblaster, not motherboard based) when you made such an observation. I use the edirol FA-101 10in/10out firewire interface and FL sounds great, along with nuendo, etc etc.

respect? why would you get any more respect than i do? because your computer (mpc, it is a computer) is its own case? we both dig for wax, we both chop samples, we both trigger samples with pads (and keys), we both sequence. i use my pc just like any hardware, sample, trigger and sequence shit by playing it (not clicking mouse buttons). i fail to understand how you would get respect for using one platform over the other, considering one is not doing something so much easier for you. those that would give you more respect for such a reason are just ignorant narrow minded folks who judge things for face value.

the comment about the 950, mp's, sp's, etc: word, but so many people dont remember, FL and other programs sync up with hardware just fine. I've used my pc to control outboard hardware equipment countless times without a hitch.
