my recommendation for funky 80's samples - #1

#1 Morris Day and the Time.

If u dont know who they are, the Time is a project of Prince's in like 83 or so. Its Morris day (the dude who sang the song "Fishnet, Black Pantyhose") Jimmy Jam (yes that one), Terry Lewis (Yes that one) and what else needs to be said? Jimmy and Terry MADE Janet Jackson what she is with thier sound. They did big things in the 80's.

Prince, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis all working together on a project.

They music has some funky 80's Prince style synth stuff and NICE breaks. The big hit they had was "jungle love" (if u seen Jay and silent bob strikes back you heard it). but they got mand funky music, lotsa cool synth stuff (courtesy of Jimmy Jam) and fresh bass stuff. AND they got some nice little guitar riffs.

You can cop them for like 4 bux and every one I got has at least one nice song to sample. If you are looking for that 80's synth sound, but dont want Kraftwerk or some euro band or Phil Collins, Genesis etc. Check out the Time. Underrated and a lot of thier stuff is in the dollar bin.

Grover Washington Jr. - Mr. Magic

The album is in the Jazz section. The rest of his stuff has some nice stuff to sample, but Mr. Magic has some ill drums I got like 3 copies of that bad boy.

another cool sample place is anything by Bobby "blue" Bland. (Blues section)

thats bull cuz all the music that comes out nowadaze is sampled from the 70's-80's.
thats what my collection contains.

and yeah mr. magic is tight, herbie hancock early 70's good stuff too.

Check out Headhunters and Manchild from Herbie Hancock. Amazing sh!t with tons of old Moogs and Arps in there. Plus WahWah Watson (remember Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite? Yup, he's the cool a$$ guitarist on the album) plays guitar on Manchild.

Yeah Johnnie "Guitar" Watson is a SF bay area head, I got mad amounts of his records. My favorite song of his (not to sample, just to bump) is "Miss Frisco, Queen of the Disco" hahahahah the hook on that one alone is enough to get me laughing right now.

i m gettin into obscure rock bands from the late 70s and early 80s. math rock is dope. plus you can find em in the $ bin.
