XL pad question

setup: i have 8 sounds assigned to 8 pads and i am trying to have all the sounds mute eachother when i hit them. i can assign sounds to mute eachother in the options but i can only mute 2 sounds for that sound..

question: how do i get any of those sounds to mute any and all of the other ones? feel me?

I own a 2k and it's only 2 at a time.Think it's the same for the xl.Try to set the voice to Note off and see what you can do.

If you're playing those 8 sounds in a certain patern/sequence then you could still make it work with just being able to mute 2 sounds for each pad. Maybe.

i just read this right now and came up with an idea!

create 1 or 2 samples of "air".. you know, just hit sample and record and stop with no audio source coming in. then assign them in your program so that one of the samples you're actually using simultaneously triggers these 2 samples. the trick is that you're gonna have these air samples muting the samples you're actually using.

it seems like you'll be able to mute up to 6 other samples with one 'sound' sample plus the 2 air samples according to this technique but you can apply this to those air sample also to create a "chain mute".

off the top it seems like nothing would go wrong using this method. try it out and see if it works with no problems. i'm actually gonna try this out myself.

This cat should just chain the pad mutes in a sequential order, I think that's what someone ^^^ was sayin. I used to do that with 2 and 4 bar loop chops. I'd put one 8th note section per pad and have each pad cancel the one before it. Four bars on 32 whole pads!! Then the first pad in the order would cancel the last one and it would repeat.

As far as bonus pad mutes, assign a sound you already got on deck to a pad and turn the mix volume to 0. Then you can use that pad to mute 2 others. Anyway, only two mutes per pad. The config rock is talkin about would mean 8 pad cancels doesn't exist, going to have to freak a combo somehow.

I just ran into this again, it's a b•tch even with the above workarounds. I used to have an S2000 and S6000 and they just have up to 32 'mute groups'. All samples assigned to the same mute group would just cut each other off. It's a feature I really miss on the 2000xl, because it's the only way you can just chop up a loop and play any kind of pattern with it, re-arranging it on the fly. It's also way quicker to just set everything to 'mute group 1' in stead of 'this mutes that, that mutes this'...

I know the MPC1000 does have this feature (mute group), and of course I can do it on my SP1200, but I don't always want my loops in mono, and the SP is not the most convenient for chopping up loops anyway.

Can anyone tell me if the 60, 3000 or s950 has mute groups? I'd like to add an s950 to my setup anyway, and if it has mute groups that would seal it for me.
