2000 xl Zip Drive Problem

I have quite a considerable problem with my mpc, and would be greatful for any help. I bought it used with an Atapi 250 mb Zip drive, and ver. 1.14 operating system installed. I was happy about it, so I don't know why I've decided to install the ver. 1.2 operating system. I downloaded it from akai's webpage, installed and - wham! there goes my zip drive. I cannot use it. it's as if the new system didn't recognize the drive - I cannot use my disk, so my mpc is useless - I cannot load my sounds and cannot save anything. do I need drivers for the Zip? where can I get any?or should I come back to the old operating system? and more importantly - how can I install anything now, since the device doesn't read the disquette (I don't have a SCSI hard disk - I keep all my stuff on the Zip)

You could probably go back to the old o.s.Once you turn the mpc on i think it will recognize the drive and the o.s.Hopefully fixing your problem.

You could try to put the old version of the os on a zip and to boot the os from the zip via your internal drive. In this thread mpc3000 explains how to boot your 2Kxl from a disk instead of the boot rom :

It seems you have to insert the disk with the old os in the drive and turn the MPC on while keeping the play key pressed.

nope - doesn't help... No matter what I put on the Zip Disc - the machine doesn't recognize it . I've also tried starting it with Play presserd - nothing happens.
it recognizes that it's Atapi, but in the disk type field there are Question marks only. nor can I format the disk - an error occurs. what can I do to re- install the OS???

So you put the os file on the zipdisk insert it in the drive and turn the mpc on it on while keeping the play button pushed. That should basically tell the MPC to go to the zipdrive and read an os file if finds there b4 trying to boot the os from flash.
