Anyone use a 250 mg Ext.Zip Drive with their 60?????

I just traded my mpc 2000 plus $200 for a very mint 60 with the full upgrade. I got it home and made a beat in no time. Everything is fine expect the scsi doesnt see my 250 zip. Ive tried to go to option 8 in the disk menu to make active but it just would not recognize it. You could hear the zip & 60 talking to each other but no luck. Would a Ext.zip 100 be better? [/b]

If you can "hear them talking" you're on the right track.

The SCSI disk will have to be formatted before you can make it active.

Note too that an MPC60 will not mount the file system created by an MPC2000.

thanks for your reply MPC 3000le, but still no luck!!! Im using a brand new 100 zip disk in my 250 drive. Im wondering if something is wrong with the scsi upgrade itself. Maybe something is loose. Im just guessing at this point. Does the zip 100 drives work well? What do you have connected to your 60?

Try a 100 drive, but if you tried to format it and it failed, I would check termination and scsi ID, then blame the 250 drive if it doesn't work.

I don't think you can use a 100 in a 250...needs to be 250 I think

True...

An MPC60/MPC3000 can't format a 100meg cart in a 250meg drive. ( My ASR10's have the same problem too ).

A fault of the ZIP250 drive, NOT the MPC.

If you're running an MPC3000 and OS 3.14 you can use the "FAST FORMAT" function to work around this firmware error within the ZIP250 drive.

No such option with an MPC60 though.

Success Mr.MPC3000le. I was able to track down a 250 mg zip and it worked to perfection. I was a little unsure about the partition selection,but I just left the setting as is. Thanks to you and the rest of the room. Respect due.

I have some info for you that may be helpful in troubleshooting this issue in the future. You can indeed use a 100MB zip disk in the Iomega-ZIP250 SCSI drive. What you have to to is grab the MPC Editor from www.midicase.com It's shareware, so it's free for the most part. The MPC Editor can format the 100MB zip, or any other zip for that matter, for use with an Akai sampler. All you have to do is use the Akai format option from the main screen.
