Question for 2000xl user with external hard-drive

i found a few options on ebay to get an external hard drive for my 2000xl....but....i read under one of the dealers specifications that the 2000xl may only read up to 2.1GB of the drive no matter how large the hard drive is...I was looking to get either a 18GB or 9GB hard drive for mine...so does anyone out there have an mpc2000xl which does use a hard drive larger than 2.1GB correctly????if so let me know how big the drive actually is just so i know what your working with....anyone with any other info on this topic please help me out , i would love to go with the larger drives but im not sure if it will actually work with the 2000xl model......

I have a 9Gb drive and it works. I only have to make 1Gb partitions. Im not sure if a larger drive than that will work.

so your saying you can make it so you only access 1 gb at atime and it works perfectly? so as long as the drive is scsi 50 pin im straight?

I think the new OS fixed this so that you can read larger drives, but you will have to make the partitions.

at one point it said on the AKAI website that the mpc would support 26gig hds.. i've never tested it myself. I have a 4gig hd right now in 1 gig partitions and it works find for me. I believe mine is 50pin.

Do not buy from that dealer. He is wrong and obviously does not own an MPC. Even the official docs state differently, if that dealer would bother to look.

I have used 6, 9 and 20 gig drives with the XL. Though having the correct size does not guarantee that one will work. I do have a 10 gig that the MPC cannot use. Just be prepared that some drives may not work. If you do mind just testing yourself, then you can buy about any drive for a lot less than those advertised "guaranteed to work with the MPC".
