yes. step editing.
there's also a method of doing a masterpiece painting without a brush, but i'm less clear on that one.

but seriously (and just to clarify that i'm not only a cynical bastard, i also mean best) learn to use the pads, then go add in other stuff in the step editing.
the pads are like any instrument. the more you practice the better you can get. there are live mpc users who can play em like drums convincingly.

perhaps you already know that you can do the sequence programming from a midi keyboard as well, where the pads are assigned to midi key numbers?

im down with step editing, but i still cant remember all the time sigs for
different strokes, example for snares and kicks. this way it's make editing a
faster. im not sure on this one, but i think snares are commonly on
.48 ...? im talking bout a basic 4/4 drum beat. anybody get what im saying?
