Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By burok Thu Apr 14, 2005 2:03 pm
Hi,

I'm planning to buy an mpc 4000 within a couple of months and I noticed that Akai released a new version of the mpc 4000 including an 80gb hdd, 272mb RAM, CD-RW etc. as standard. (I'm also planning to get an 8-out expansion for the machine.)

So, my question is:

does anyone know where to (in europe) buy these new machines that comes with all stuff as standard (except for the 8-out that is) ?

(I saw Zzounds.com had that version of the machine going for $2290 or something like that, but I can't seem to find any place in europe to get it...)

I dunno how it is where you live

but in some countries, what they do is just sell the "LE" version of the MPC, that is without any hard drive, 8 out, or CD burner

in some other countries they just throw in a hard drive or whatever

if I were you I d buy everything seperate, it would probably be cheaper

but once again, it depends of what coountry you re in

I live in sweden, but everywhere in europe goes just fine...

maybe I should go for buying everything seperate instead then, but I thought it would be cheaper to get the updated machine, and just add the 8-out expansion than to buy the classic one with 16 mb standard (without hdd, cd-rw etc.) and add all the stuff by hand.

buy the mpc4000 new without extra options. so without the ram, without hd, without cdrom, without extra in/out boards.
You should find them for about 1800 euro, new. Then add pc133 memory (mpc has 2 slots), buy a new hard drive (anything but maxtor) with a max capacity of 128gb. Add an usb hub as well. All these things go very very cheap. Except for the memory maybe, you should buy this all new.
Then go and find the extra output board that you want on Ebay.

Then go to akaipro.com and download OS 1.71 ;)

I think this would be the best and cheapest option. You could buy the mpc4000 second handed of course but then you havent got any warranty. And some people have had troubles with the screen, pads or had a bad wire connection..

jag beställde min mpc4k från JAM i Stockholm med 512mb RAM, 80gb hårddisk, 8 utgångar, CD-RW och det kostade mig runt 33-35.000 spänn men jag är säker på att den är billigare utomlands...

ikke: allrite, cool - but 1800 euro's for a new one seems really cheap.. the cheapest one I've seen was from music store köln who wants 2350 euro's for a 4k without any expansions...

maybe you could dig up some url?

If you look around carefully, you'll find one cheap. I woudlnt pay more than 2000 euros for a bold new one.

2000 euro's for a new one would be ok.. I gotta check if I can find one, if anyone know where to get one for that price (or less than music store köln's which goes for 2390 euro's) let me know!

Seriously, last month here in the Netherlands you could buy a 4000 for only 1400 euro in a shop called Feedback. They are probably sold out now because I cannot find it on the website anymore.

Hi Burok,

I just phoned that dutch music store Feedback for a question about a certain 'aanbieding' (= special offer) and I also checked the MPC4000 for you. It was the last stock of white MPC's. It's price was €1499,- but they were sold out the next day 10 minutes after opening :-). So if it is of any comfort you did not stand much of a chance getting one anyway. The new blue ones will cost more (no price yet) but will be fully expanded.

Cheers!
