Yeah reverse would be nice in the 1k. As far as Ableton Live, I got it to overcome the shortcomings in the MPC and found out that it works totally different than anything I have ever used before. It is great with the MPC because you can take beats from the 1k and loop them into live as well as anything else sequenced with the 1k. You can then remix the tracks and add whatever else to the Live project, such as live instruments, vox, or other synths or loops from vinyl and they all snap right into time with eachother. Also, you can make the timing of the events in the loop tighter with the elastic boundaries which is great for sloppy but cool realtime instrument performances.

Other than the great control of the tracks and timing it also saves you from having to remember what synths were playing what channels, how they were in the mix and other things that make a sequence hard to recall. With live after the parts are recorded, you can turn off the synths and Mpc if you like. If you need to add more stuff, just set the timing of the MPC to the live session, sequence what you need and record it into Live.

I used to record all of the parts into Pro Tools and add into that, but the timing was hard to match up for some things. Now that isn't a problem and I can make much fuller and farther along ideas with less technical effort.

Also, using Reason sequenced by the MPC you can rewire the reason tracks into Live easily which gives you the best of three worlds.

I have no connection to M-audio or Ableton so this isn't any kind of ad. In fact I downloaded the programs because I am cheap and like buying hardware better. Having said that, Live and Reason have become as valuable to me as my Mpc 1k in my studio.
