something weird I just checked.

Insert Temp to zone end is quicker than insert temp to zone start. (when zone chopping)

If you delete after soft end first, delete before soft start is quicker.

Memory things I think. Kinda cool I'm really getting into this thing.

it took 47-57 sec to insert a temp (1sec long) at zone end

this works for you, el???

It depends howe long your sample is and how big the zone is, the smaller the zone the less time it takes, so I tend to use it for drums, whatever the longest section of the sample is, that's what I keep there and then zone out the smaller bits I want.

When you go to the .100 silent sample, the zone should have the same start and end point automatically (.100) if you paste it to the zone start (same point as zone end, 100) it takes a long time like that, almost a minute. But if you do zone end (also .100) it is much quicker.

I'll try longerzones and see what happens. it isn't a quick process, but it is very flexible, you can combine samples, delete clicks from samples, reverse sections of samples, copy a part of a sample and paste it a bunch of times at the end then decay it for a sustain/release loop type thing.

You can also easily audition the part before the zone and after the zone with the play X button, they really went all out.

But the time issue is with the 60's processor and memory, if you got a bunch of sounds in the memory then it will take longer, when you got only a few short samples then it is quicker.

I take 2 or 3 second samples when I chop, then I zoom the zone in like I'm trimming the sample, then paste it and all I gotta do it delete the first .100 at the beginning and set the soft start and end points.

at it's worst it takes about a minute, but it can feel like forever, sometimes it takes a while and you just gotta leave it alone, also you gotta make sure that where you are pasting is right in the zone field, I had an error once where I had the zones at zero and I pasted something and the machine stayed pasting for too long so I shut down, I consider that a crash, but I did something stupid, that's why it happened, can't remember exactly what it is.

be patient, it can really give good results. Another good thing is if you set the zone to how you want it but don't have a silent sample to paste to, you can go sample it and then go back to the sample edit screen and your zone stays how you set it unless you switch sounds in the edit screen.

cool, I'll make sure I set the end zone correctly and try it again.

you say that you usually do this chopping thing on drums, that makes total sense. but I'm not sure it'd be the best thing for chopping longer multiple, non-drum samples.

I'm sure you must have the mpc editor, and this would obviously be easier and faster on the PC. Do you still have a preference for doing it on the mpc?

there shouldn't be any major sound difference between the 2, would it?

well converted 3000 files can't be tuned up as much, I think you lose 3 semitones, and the sound is different, distoring a sample on the way in changes the sound characteristics, and if you do this on the editor it doesn't sound the same, it's best not to convert clipped samples, but I haven'tmessed with that too much.

I like the control of sampling into the 60, I can turn stuff up or down and get different results, plus I love chopping on the 60, for longer samples I just back cue the record and sample and trim again, but for short things I do the zones, and sometimes for long things depends if I am feeling impatient or not.

visit the YOUR MUSIC section and peep my post "first beat on the 60" to witness the conversion of a 2000XL user to the 60.

anyone know how to sync the 2 up, and maybe do drums on the 60, and the 2000xl dedicated to samples..

By spectre Fri Apr 15, 2005 5:04 am
Connect them with midi. Sample drums in the 60 and everything else in the XL.

Or you can sample in the 60, then record into the XL so you have all the sounds at your disposal in the XL.

i havent done it before, do i use to midi cables? botn ins to outs, or just 1. and when i plug them up is there anything i need to change inside the interface?

By anon_twist Sat Apr 16, 2005 8:39 pm
before someone takes a crap on you for not looking this up..

if you want to sequence only one machine, you'll need 2 midi cables so you can sequence, then playback.. if you are sequencing on both, all you need is 1... does that make sense?

By Toecutter Sat Apr 16, 2005 8:46 pm
Did you ever sample the same exact samples on both and see how different it sounds? Just curious since you have them both side by side...
