a q about MPC's

i heard the new MPC is a 1000, i am thinking abotu getting one but i have never used a one. i know theres a 2000 and a 4000. are these better? i thought the name would go up as they were newer, e.g 2000 is not as good as 4000? so how come the 1000 is the new name?

anyway, can someone please break down what exactly the mpc' is actually used for?

Never heard of the MPC1000, but you're right about the number going up as the quality gets better (theoretically).

The 2000 came out, then the 3000, then the 2000XL, then the 4000. (I think)

Supposedly the 3000 is more powerful than the 2000, but for some reason never really got popular, so the 2000xl was released as kinda the next step after the 2000, where the 3000 shoulda been succesful, but wasn't. So what I'm saying (I guess) is that the 2000 is less powerful than the 3000, 2000XL or the 4000, but there is much debate as to whether or not the 3000 is better than the 2000XL, or vice versa. And the 4000 should be the most powerful, but I'm happy with my 2000XL for the price difference between the 2.

The MPC1000 is the baby of the MPC series and is aimed at a slightly different market - it's got some good new features, but is lacking somewhat in other areas (including backwards compatibility).

I reckon the MPC2000XL still represents the best value for money in the series.

I think it goes MPC 60 series then 3000 to 2000 to 2kxl to 4000....
I think the 3000 would have much more better if it had those crucial features of the 2kxl, but for all the controversy you gotta wonder just how dope the 2kxl would have been if it had those crucial 3000 features like vga output, etc....other than that, I still love my mpc2kxl and wouldnt sell it for anything....

I can do everything but have sex with my 2000xl...
I suggest a blown out mpc whichever one...get ALL options.

I have heard music so ill made on
3000/60's that they make you want to shake violently and break things.
I have read this and that about 1000's and I would rather not spend a grand on something that looks like a color game boy.

i own a pc with cubase and reason,i might buy a midi keyboard (is it worth it)

so which MPC shall i buy, whats the proce ranges. i heard the 1000 will have new features

i know the 1000 is, its the size of a a4 piece of paper

midi keyboards are well worth it, especially if you use reason and cubase, cause you can play all the soft synths in realtime. If you can afford it, get a midi keyboard with knobs, cause then you can control stuff like cutoff and rez in realtime while you're playing - pretty sick.

As for what mpc to get, it's a choice between a 4000 and a 2000xl. (until the 1000 comes out) If you want to be on the safe side, wait till the 1000 comes out and have a play with it and read reviews of it etc. If you can afford a 2000xl (they go for about AU$3000 in Australia brand new with expanded memory and 8 outs, which is about US$1500), get it - they're mad. They're simply the best thing for sampled beats and you won't regret buying one.

A 4000 will set you back nearly 8 g's australian, but in terms of features, look, storage etc., nothing beats it. But for that kind of c-ash, you'd want to be pretty freakin serious about your beats!

As for your other questions, a 2000xl will just fit in a large backpack. I myself wouldn't trust me to carry it around like that though, anything could happen to it hey.

You can sync up the mpc to cubase so you record some piano tracks or whatever as well

i understand that you play in about 10 secs from a trak on cd, then take out a snare etc.. does it give u a good editing mode to do this, like is it accurate? how does that work

also, one thing i do not understand

say you make a typical

boom, chh, boom, chh, then u like it, and next you wanna make a little addition, like add a "tss" in it like

boom,tss,chh,boom,tss,chh

can u jus go back and overlap the beat etc.. and add stuff over it when and where u like?

and how do u go about making bridges and choruses where the beat changes dramatically?

i noticed the machine has no built in speakers or anything so how does the sound get out?

and how is the sound recorded?

1 more Q is why do people mention taking them to gigs? they make beats live and play them?

how do i load up the memory with sounds, like on the pads

does the sounds i put in the mpc stay there until i delete them? like seperate categories for "bass" etc?

and does the mpc2000xk have the drag and drop feature from a pc?
